Pulaski Mariners | 2013 Northeastern Baseball Recap | 2013 Final Statistics
BOSTON – Following a record-breaking season, Northeastern baseball's Aaron Barbosa signed a free-agent deal with the Seattle Mariners, forgoing his final season of eligibility with the Huskies. Barbosa was assigned to the Pulaski Mariners of the Appalachian League.
In just three seasons on Huntington Avenue, Barbosa made his presence felt in the NU record books. The Dracut, Mass., native owns the school record in career stolen bases (69), and is ranked in the top ten in many other career offensive categories including hits (fourth - 217), triples (fifth - 11), runs scored (sixth - 136) and at bats (sixth - 656). He is also the NU single-season record holder in hits (76 in 2012) and steals (29 in 2012).
As a junior in 2013, Barbosa started all 57 games in right field and led the team in hits (71), runs (47), triples (four) and on-base percentage (.387). His 26 steals were also a team-high, breaking Tom Burke's 34-year-old record to claim the distinction of NU's Man of Steal. He also recorded a perfect fielding percentage with 146 putouts and seven outfield assists en route to Second Team All-CAA and NEIBA All-Star accolades.
After finishing 31-26 (12-15 CAA) in 2013, the Huskies managed to put together one of the most accomplished seasons in school history, reaching the 30-win plateau for the fourth time in school history. Despite being voted to finish ninth in the preseason CAA polls, Northeastern defied the odds and reached the semifinals of the CAA Championship in dramatic fashion.
Barbosa joins a Pulaski club that is 18-13 on the season, 2.5 games behind the Bluefield Blue Jays for first place in the Appalachian League East.
