Former men's basketball coach Rudy Keeling passes away

BOSTON – The Northeastern Athletics community lost a member today (July 6) after former men's basketball head coach Rudy Keeling passed away at his home in Londonderry, N.H., after a brief battle with illness.

Keeling coached the Huskies' men's basketball program for five seasons (1996-01) and amassed a win-loss total of 48-92 (.343). Prior to leading Northeastern, Keeling spent eight years as head coach at the University of Maine. In 13 seasons as a head coach, Keeling finished with an overall mark of 154-214 (.418).

After his coaching tenure, Keeling became the commissioner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in May 2007. He recently retired from his post on January 14, 2013. Keeling was responsible for establishing the ECAC as the host for the NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Frozen Four in 2014 in Philadelphia.

The New York City native was Marquette University's primary recruiter for two seasons prior to his time at Maine. His first college opportunity came at Bradley University where he was an assistant coach from 1980 to 1986.

Keeling graduated from Quincy College (Ill.) in 1970 and raised four children with his wife, Jane.

Keeling was 66 years old.
