DEDHAM, Mass. – The Northeastern field hockey team (3-1) received goals from five different scorers, and freshman Becky Garner made five saves in goal to lead the Huskies to a 5-0 victory against Dartmouth on Friday night at Dedham Field.

Friday marked the 350th career win for NU head coach Cheryl Murtagh during her 25-plus year career on Huntington Avenue.

Despite being outshot 19-10 in the game, NU controlled the tempo from the outset, scoring three times in the first half before netting another two tallies in the second. Emmy Zwererijn had a goal and an assist to pace the Huskies, while classmate Natalie Stewart netted her first collegiate tally early in the second half.

NU came out of the gates flying, taking a 1-0 lead just 47 seconds into the game on senior captain Lindsay Bennett's second goal in as many games. After the midfielder took a pass from outside the circle, Bennett walked into the shooting area and fired a shot on goal. The initial shot was stopped by Big Green goalkeeper Ellen Meyer (four saves), but Bennett followed her own rebound and knocked it home for her second of the season.

With 6:09 to play in the opening half, Zweserijn extended her scoring streak to four games on a great individual effort in the Dartmouth end. Zweserijn began the play after taking a long feed from Bennett heading into the attacking zone before dribbling through a defender and rifling a shot into the middle of the cage.

Northeastern took a commanding three-goal edge just over three minutes later as Vanessa Pryor cleaned up a rebound in front of the Dartmouth goal following a blast from Zweserijn on a corner opportunity, one of Northeastern five corners on the night.

The Huskies continued the assault as the second half began, and Stewart made it 4-0 when she stole a Big Green outlet pass at midfield before going in and firing a shot into the right corner for her first goal of the year.

At the other end of the field, Garner and the NU defense kept Dartmouth at bay. The Big Green, who earned eight corners in the final 35 minutes, were stymied throughout the contest, including defensive saves from Zoe Kale and Jessica Unger during the second half.

Caroline Judge would get into the act for NU with 19:21 to play in regulation with her second goal of the season on a shot through traffic and past Meyer to give Northeastern a 5-0 edge.

The Huskies will be back in action on Sunday when Northeastern travels to New Hampshire for a 2 p.m. contest.
