DEDHAM, Mass – Despite going back and forth during an up-tempo and spirited second half of play, Hofstra used its speed to net two goals in a span of five minutes to escape Dedham Field with a 5-4 win against the Northeastern field hockey team (3-5, 0-1) in the CAA opener for both squads.

Emmy Zweserijn led the Huskies with two goals and an assist, while Lindsay Bennett and Vanessa Pryor also scored for the Huskies. Jonel Boileau had a pair of goals and two assists to lead the Pride. NU outshot the Pride 22-10 in the game and earned 11 penalty corners to Hofstra's four.

Northeastern began the game dominating the pace of play, maintaining possession of the ball and generated numerous scoring opportunities in the attacking end. The Huskies got on the board midway through the first half as Zweserijn knocked home her fourth goal of the season when she deposited a shot into the middle of the cage off a rebound from a Jessica Unger chance at the left side.

Hofstra would answer, however, with two goals in less than two minutes late in the half. The first came from Claudia Marin Samper when she took a pass from Boileau, walked into the circle and fired a reverse shot past NU goalkeeper Becky Garner (two saves) to level the score at one aside.

With 6:51 left to play in the first half, Hofstra took a 2-1 lead as Charlotte Loehr sent a shot past Garner off a corner chance for the Pride, their lone corner of the half.

Zweserijn brought the score back to even five minutes into the second when she converted on a corner chance after Bennett inserted the ball to Natalie Stewart at the top of the circle.

Hofstra wasted no time in retaking the lead as Boileau gave the Pride a 3-2 edge in the 48th minute with a hard shot past Garner from the right side. Following the goal, Cara Ahlgrim replaced Garner in the cage.

The Huskies would continue to battle in search of the tying goal, but Hofstra's speed up front resulted in a two-goal advantage for the Pride when Boileau and Stella Schoen went in two-on-one during a quick transition, beating Ahlgrim for a 4-2 Pride lead with 14:49 to play.

Pryor would bring the Huskies within one just over two minutes later with her third goal of the season. After NU's initial corner bid was blocked, Stewart fed Pryor with a pass on the left side, and Pryor snuck a shot through Hofstra goalkeeper Kaitlyn De Turo (six saves).

The Pride regained its two-goal lead with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation as Schoen and Boileau went in two-on-one again, but this time it was Schoen who finished off the play for a 5-3 score.

Bennett made it a 5-4 game with 2:36 remaining when she took a pass from Zweserijn to beat De Turo for her third goal of the season. The Huskies continued to pressure after the goal, earning a corner as time expired, but NU's shot bid was blocked and sent out of the circle to end the game.

The Huskies will be back in action on Sunday when No. 9 Boston College comes to Dedham Field for a 2 p.m. matchup.
