Men's track & field impresses at Battle in Beantown

– The Northeastern men's track and field team competed in its first meet of the calendar year at the sixth Battle of Beantown hosted by Harvard at the Gordon Indoor Track Saturday afternoon, and the Huskies claimed a trio of first-place individual finishes.

As a team, Northeastern claimed second with 92.5 points as host Harvard walked away with the team title after collecting 195.5 points. Brown took the bronze team finish (67), Boston College snagged fourth (56), while Army finshed fifth (55).

Jared Lane won the 200-meter dash when he timed in at 22.14 seconds. He later took third in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.26 seconds.

The reigning 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year Wesley Gallagher set the pace in the 1-mile run, claiming the individual title with a time of 4:14.83. Kyle Darrow accounted for NU's final individual victory when he cleared 6.89 meters in the long jump. Jackson MacDonald followed Darrow in the long jump by placing third at 6.66 meters.

Northeastern claimed two more third-place finishes as Kevin Rosenberg tossed 15.41 meters in the shot put and Max Milder totaled 17.77 meters in the weight throw.

Northeastern next competes at the Joe Donahue games on Friday, Jan. 24.
