NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Clay Witt made 30 saves and Adam Reid recorded three points (two goals, one assist) to send the No. 11/11 Northeastern men's ice hockey team (15-7-3, 8-4-1) to a 4-0 victory against No. 15/15 Notre Dame on Friday night at Compton Family Ice Arena.

The win makes the Huskies 7-0-1 in their last eight Hockey East games, their best conference stretch since the 1999-00 season (5-0-3).

Reid netted the game's first two goals early in the first period before Mike Szmatula and Mike McMurtry added insurance markers in the second period. UND outshot Northeastern 30-14 in the game while the Huskies were 1-of-6 on the power play. NU held the Fighting Irish to an 0-of-3 showing on the man advantage and won 32-of-63 face-offs.

Notre Dame controlled the first and last four minutes of the opening period, outshooting the Huskies 11-4, but it was Northeastern that potted two goals in 2:13 to take a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes of play. Witt came up big for NU early in the frame when he stoned Sam Herr on a one-timer from in-between the hashmarks off a feed from the left corner.

After the Fighting Irish killed of their first penalty of the night, the Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a strong individual effort from Reid. With UND cycling the puck around the NU zone, Reid flew out to the point to block a shot off the stick of Andy Ryan, sending the puck into the neutral zone. Reid then followed the loose puck, sped into the attacking zone and buried a shot over the right shoulder of Summerhays for his fourth goal of the season.

Less than three minutes later, Reid struck again to give Northeastern a two-goal edge. McMurtry started the play by sending the puck down to Dalen Hedges below the goal line. Hedges then drew a defender to him before threading a pass in front of the net to a cutting Reid, who hammered it under the pad of Summerhays.

Notre Dame found its stride following Reid's second of the night, and tested Witt throughout the remainder of the stanza. Matt Benning made one of NU's best defensive plays of the period when he broke up a two-on-one at the tail end of a Husky power play near the midway mark of the first by getting his stick in the passing lane.

Herr continued to pound the puck on goal into the final minutes of the frame, his biggest chance coming when he collected a puck in the attacking zone and fired a shot on goal that Witt stopped. T.J. Tynan then gathered the rebound and looked to cut into the deficit, but Herr's momentum carried him into the net to draw a face-off.

NU upped the tempo at the start of the second period, scoring twice in the middle frame, forcing Notre Dame head coach Jeff Jackson to insert Chad Katunar in goal midway through the frame. Szmatula gave the Huskies a commanding 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the stanza with NU on the power play. With Herr in the box for interference, Northeastern converted just eight seconds into the man advantage when John Stevens found Szmatula in the slot for a shot that knuckled over the shoulder of Summerhays for Szmatula's 10th of the season.

Torin Snydeman made a bid to put the Huskies up by four when he skated down the left side before saucering a pass across the zone to Szmatula, but Summerhays was able to get a pad on the bid.

McMurtry potted his fifth of the season with 8:34 left in the period after some hard work from Hedges behind the goal. Hedges, battling with a defenseman below the goal line, escaped with the puck to find McMurtry for a one timer past Summerhays.

Notre Dame held the Huskies to just three shots in the final frame as the Fighting Irish tossed 10 shots on Witt, but the junior netminder held his ground. Mario Lucia made a bid to spoil the shutout when he was left alone on the doorstep with a loose puck, but Witt went post-to-post to make the big save.

Later in the frame, Tynan had Notre Dame's best chance to get on the scoreboard on the power play when he ripped a shot off the left post, and Benning was able to tie up the forward in front of the cage looking for the rebound.

The Huskies and Fighting Irish will meet again tomorrow night in the series finale, beginning at 7:05 p.m. on NBCSN.
