WILMINGTON, N.C. -- With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Northeastern women's soccer team (9-4-2, 4-1-0 CAA) will look to improve its standing in the CAA playoff picture with a pair of road contests against UNCW (Friday, 7 p.m.) and the College of Charleston (Sunday, 1 p.m.).
CAA PLAYOFF PICTUREEntering the weekend, Northeastern currently sits in second place in the CAA standings with a 4-1-0 record. Only Drexel (4-0-1) ranks ahead of the Huskies, but since the teams have yet to play, Northeastern still controls its own destiny in terms of finishing ahead of the Dragons. James Madison also owns a 4-1-0 record, but sits behind NU in third due to the head-to-head meeting won by the Huskies, 2-0, on Oct. 5. The top six teams in the standings qualify for the CAA Women's Soccer Championship, with the top two receiving a bye to the semifinal round.
SCOUTING UNCWThe Seahawks enter Friday's contest with a 7-7-1 overall record and a 2-4-0 mark in CAA play. UNCW sits in seventh place in the conference standings and will be looking to crack the top six to earn a bid to the postseason. The Seahawks rank third in the conference in goals (1.93 per game) and fifth in goals against (1.33 per game). Katrina Guillou leads the squad with seven goals and 16 points, while goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy owns a 1.53 GAA in 11 starts.Â
SCOUTING CHARLESTONThe Cougars sit one spot behind UNCW in eighth place in the CAA with a 1-4-1 conference record and a 5-9-1 overall mark. Charleston has not scored in three straight games following shutout losses to William & Mary (2-0) and James Madison (3-0), and a scoreless draw vs. Towson. As a result, the Cougars are tied for seventh in CAA scoring (1.07 goals per game), while ranking eighth in goals against (1.56). Mary-Kate Bowers paces the team with five goals on the year.
DEFENSE ON DISPLAYNortheastern continues to rank among the nation's best in several defensive categories. The Huskies rank first in the NCAA in team goals against average (0.253) and are tied for first with 11 shutouts in 15 matches. Senior goalkeeper
Paige Burnett also ranks first with an individual GAA of 0.256, while ranking 11th in minutes played (1,407) and 16th in save percentage (0.875).
