DURHAM, N.H. – Behind a 28-save shutout from senior Chloe Desjardins, the Northeastern women's hockey team picked up its first Hockey East win of the season with a 2-0 triumph at New Hampshire on Thursday night.

Junior Kendall Coyne recorded her 40th career multi-point game with a goal and an assist to help the Huskies (2-3-3, 1-1-0 WHEA) snap a four-game winless skid. Northeastern also extended its winning streak over UNH (2-7-1, 0-3-0 WHEA) to five straight games, while Coyne stretched her personal scoring streak against the Wildcats to seven consecutive contests.

Sophomore Hayley Scamurra also scored for the Huskies, while junior Paige Savage earned an assist. Northeastern was outshot, 28-19, including a 13-3 margin in the third period, but was able to post its second shutout of the season thanks in large part to a stellar effort from its senior goaltender.

Desjardins came up big in the first period with 10 saves– none bigger than a breakaway stop on Amy Boucher, in which the NU netminder kicked out her left pad to stuff the attempt at the right of the net.

After recording just four shots on goal in the opening period, the Huskies came out fast in the second and took a 1-0 lead within 90 seconds. Coyne started the play with a feed to Savage at the top of the right circle. Savage hit the brakes, picked up her head, and delivered a crisp, cross-ice feed to Scamurra, who was wide open at the far post for a quick wrister that sailed over the outstretched pad of UNH goaltender Vilma Vaattovaara just 1:29 into the frame.

The Huskies struck early once again in the third when Coyne stripped a UNH defender in the offensive zone, and made a series of shifty dekes to fool Vaattovaara in tight, just 66 seconds into the stanza.

Desjardins took over from there, stopping all 13 UNH shots in the third period to improve to 5-1-0 all-time vs. the Wildcats.

The Huskies will finally return to Matthews Arena for their first home game of the season on Saturday against Maine. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
