ResultsPROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite winning six overall events and earning 16 top-three finishes, the Northeastern women's swimming and diving team was edged out by Brown, 136-107, in a dual meet on Friday afternoon.
Â
Northeastern (3-2) once again saw great performances from its youthful diving team. Freshman
Jacquelyn Gover led the way for the Huskies with a first-place score of 253.57 in the 3-meter dive, and placed second in the 1-meter dive, just 0.14 points behind fellow NU newcomer
Caroline Gonsalves.
Â
Senior
Anna Schegoleva remained undefeated in backstroke events this season after posting the top time in the 200 backstroke (2:05.01), tagging the wall a full two seconds ahead of the rest of the field. She also walked away from Friday's dual meet with her first non-exhibition victory in the 200 IM (2:07.38) this year, winning her fifth individual event overall during 2014-15.
Â
Taylor Ellis posted a season-best time of 2:20.42 in the 200 breaststroke as the sophomore from Hanson, Massachusetts came in more than four seconds ahead of Brown's Katie Roach for first place. This season, Ellis has yet to finish outside of the top two positions in four total breaststroke events, and has finished in first a total of three times.
Â
The Huskies kicked off the meet with a first-place performance in the 200 medley relay, winning the event for the second time in the last three meets.
Sara Touchette-McGowan's split of 25.31 was the fastest butterfly time in the event, and put anchor
Rachel Green in great position to seal the victory for the Northeastern A team with a time of 1:45.12.
Â
Several Huskies made their season debuts in the 1000 and 200 freestyle, as the Bears placed first and second in both events to take a 35-20 lead on NU.
Rachael Geiger was the top Husky in the 1000 freestyle (10:47.30), finishing ahead of co-captain
Megan Foran (10:47.92) and
Anila Mehta (11:55.53).
Â
Jessica Colucci lowered her best time of the year to 25.42 in the 50 freestyle, while Touchette-McGowan and
Samira Hoesl were the only Huskies to come in with times under 25 seconds.
Â
Northeastern outscored Brown 28-10 on the diving board, and a one-two finish by Gonsalves and Gover in the 1-meter dive cut the Bears' lead to 63-49. However, Brown swam well in both the 200 butterfly and 100 freestyle, and picked up five top-three finishes to take command of the meet, 94-56.
Â
The Huskies responded by securing three out of the top four spots in the 200 backstroke.
Christine Leong's time of 2:07.34 was second best only to teammate Schegoleva, while
Sophie Browne came in fourth place with a time of 2:10.08.
Â
Jordan Domeier was the fastest NU swimmer in the 500 freestyle, and netted a season-best time of 5:13.86. Another strong outing in the 3-meter diving event helped cut Brown's lead to 117-90, but the Bears held on to claim first and third place in the 400 freestyle relay, to wrap up a 136-107 victory.
Â
Northeastern will travel to Rutgers on Friday, Nov. 21 for the first day of the Frank Elm Invitational. The Huskies will compete against seven other programs during the weekend, and will be scored as a team.
