SANTA CLARA – The Northeastern men's basketball team resumes play in the 48th Cable Car Classic on Saturday with a matchup against tournament host Santa Clara at the Leavey Center at 5 p.m. (EST).

STORY LINES
• Northeastern and Santa Clara will meet for the second time in the Cable Car Classic on Saturday. The Huskies defeated the Broncos, 62-50, in the teams' only prior meeting in the 2009 Cable Car Classic on Dec. 29, 2009. Matt Janning led NU with 18 points, while Nkem Ojougboh posted 12 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks.

• The Huskies are making their second appearance in the Cable Car Classic. Northeastern is 2-1 all-time at the tournament, having previously won the title in 2009 with victories over Santa Clara (62-50) and Kent State (61-58). Northeastern suffered its first loss at the competition on Wednesday in a 60-58 setback against Cal Poly.

• The Huskies will face a West Coast Conference (WCC) opponent for the first time since 2009 when NU beat the same Santa Clara Broncos, 62-50, at the Cable Car Classic. Northeastern is 2-3 all-time against current members of the WCC.

• The Huskies tied a season high with 19 assists on Wednesday vs. Cal Poly. Northeastern registered assists on 83-percent of its field goals (19 on 23 FG), which represents a new season high, surpassing the 81-percent clip (17 assists on 21 FG) that NU posted on Nov. 23 vs. Manhattan.

• The Huskies have registered assists on 66-percent of their made field goals, and are averaging 14.9 assists per game (second-most in the CAA).

• The Huskies rank seventh in the nation in free throw shooting this season with a 77-percent clip.   Northeastern converted a season-high 23 free throws (23-for-26) against Western Michigan on Dec. 6. The last time NU made 20+ free throws in a game was on March 8, 2014 when the Huskies knocked down 32-of-44 foul shots in the CAA tournament vs. Drexel.

• Northeastern ranks first in the CAA in rebounding defense with 28.0 rebounds allowed per game. In addition, NU's +6.9 rebounding margin ranks second in the conference behind Towson (+11.1).

• Senior Scott Eatherton ranks second among CAA players in shooting percentage with a 55.7-percent clip. Eatherton is one of only five CAA players to own a shooting percentage of 50-percent or higher this season.

• Senior Scott Eatherton will appear in his 99th career game on Saturday vs. Santa Clara. The Hershey, Pennsylvania, native played in 57 games with St. Francis (Pa.) from 2010-12, and will be making his 42nd appearance in a Huskies' uniform on Saturday. Between the two schools, Eatherton has amassed 1,172 total points in 98 career games (12.0 points per game).

• A win would give Northeastern its best 10-game start (7-3) since the 1985-86 season when the Huskies started 8-2 and eventually improved to 13-2.
