Road to the Women's Beanpot Part I

NU LOOKS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT BEANPOT TITLE
Winners of seven straight games, the Northeastern women's hockey team (14-12-2) will look for its third straight Women's Beanpot title on Tuesday against host Boston College (20-5-3) in a rematch of last year's championship game.
The Huskies edged the Eagles, 4-3, to win the 2013 crown at Matthews Arena as
Katie MacSorley netted the game-winner with 9:40 remaining in the third period to break a 3-3 tie.
BOSSING THE BEANPOT
Northeastern owns a record 16 Women's Beanpot titles, including the 2012 and 2013 championships. The Huskies won the inaugural Women's Beanpot in 1979 and were victorious in eight consecutive Women's Beanpots between 1984-1991. Northeastern is unbeaten in its last seven Beanpot contests (4-0-3) dating back to 2010.
HUSKIES VS. BOSTON COLLEGE IN THE 'POT
Northeastern is 15-4-1 all-time against Boston College in the Women's Beanpot. The Huskies won the first 14 Beanpot meetings between the teams before the Eagles finally registered a win on Feb. 4, 2003 in the Semifinals (3-2).
Northeastern is 4-0 all-time against Boston College in the Women's Beanpot Final, winning titles against the Eagles in 1979 (3-1), 1985 (7-0), 1996 (4-3) and 2013 (4-3).

Northeastern defeated Boston University, 4-1, in the semifinals, while Boston College knocked off Harvard by a 2-1 count.
LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies notched their seventh straight win on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Providence at Schneider Arena.
Kelly Wallace broke a scoreless deadlock in the final minute of the second period and Northeastern never looked back, extending the lead to 2-0 on a
Hayley Scamurra goal early in the third, before holding off a Providence rally down the stretch. With NU leading 2-1 in the final minute,
Colleen Murphy picked off a pass at center ice and scored into the empty net to give the Huskies the 3-1 win.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
The Eagles enter Tuesday's matchup with a 20-5-3 record and a 14-2-1 mark in Hockey East play, good for first place in the conference standings. Boston College had its nine-game unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday at Connecticut as the Huskies pulled a 2-0 stunner behind a 45-save shutout from Elaine Chuli.
The Eagles feature a potent attack (3.4 goals per game) led by sophomore forward Haley Skarupa (18 g, 12 a), who ranks fourth in Hockey East with 30 points. Freshman Andie Anastos is the conference's leading rookie scorer with 27 points (11 g, 16 a), while junior Emily Field (24 pts), senior Taylor Wasylk (23) and sophomore Dana Trivigno (22) give the Eagles a plethora of attacking options.
In the defensive end, senior Corinne Boyles leads all Hockey East netminders in GAA (1.72), save percentage (.940) and winning percentage (.750).
Northeastern and BC have already met three times this season, including two matchups at Conte Forum. The Eagles skated to a 6-1 win on home ice on Nov. 10 as Field and Trivigno each recorded two goals and two assists. The Huskies and Eagles then played to a 1-1 tie at Conte Forum on Jan. 11 as NU goaltender
Chloe Desjardins made 40 saves. The following day, the Eagles rallied with three unanswered goals, including two in the third period, to claim a 3-2 win at Matthews Arena.
DESJARDINS EARNS SECOND WEEKLY HONOR
Junior goaltender
Chloe Desjardins was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Huskies to a pair of wins against Harvard and Providence last week. Desjardins stopped 27 shots against No. 4/5 Harvard in the Beanpot Semifinals, before turning aside 29 of 30 attempts on Saturday at Providence. The junior was previously named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 13.
WALLACE HAS THE HOT HAND
Senior
Kelly Wallace has been on a tear as of late, recording 19 points in her last 15 games. Wallace is currently riding an eight-game point-streak with nine goals and three assists during that span. The Libertyville, Ill., native needs just one point to match her single-season career best of 28 points set last year.
FRESHMAN FOCUS
Rookie
Hayley Scamurra scored her first-career game-winning goal on Saturday at Providence as the Huskies prevailed, 3-1. The goal extended Scamurra's point-streak to four games (2 g, 4 a) and gave her 16 points in 22 games this season. The freshman ranks sixth among NCAA rookies with 0.73 points per game.
ESPOSITO NAMED WHEA PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Senior
Brittany Esposito was named the Warrior Hockey Player of the Month in Hockey East on Feb. 3. For the month of January, Esposito recorded 11 points (6 g, 5 a) in seven games as the Huskies posted a 4-2-1 record. Esposito had points in five of the seven contests, including four multi-point outings.
CENTURY MARK FOR ESPOSITO

Brittany Esposito registered her 100th career point on Feb. 4 vs. Harvard with an assist on
Kelly Wallace's first-period goal. With the assist, Esposito became the 24th player in program history to record at least 100 points. Esposito has 41 goals and 59 assists in 129 career games.
SURGING SENIORS
The play of Northeastern's senior class has been a driving force behind the Huskies' current seven-game winning streak. Twenty-one of the team's last 29 goals have been scored by the class, including one by
Kelly Wallace on Saturday at Providence.
TICKLING THE TWINE
Northeastern has been on an offensive roll during its current seven-game winning streak. The Huskies have scored at least three goals in all seven games and have averaged 4.3 goals per game during the span.
FOUR IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
Northeastern is unbeaten this season when it scores four goals or more in a game (7-0-0). The Huskies most recently scored four in their 4-3 win over No. 4/5 Harvard in the Women's Beanpot Semifinals.
POLL POSITION
Northeastern received votes in both national polls on Feb. 3-4, marking the first week NU has received votes since Oct. 14. The Huskies have faced five teams (Wisconsin, Cornell, Harvard, Boston College and Boston University) that are currently ranked or receiving votes this season.
SAVAGE SETS IT UP
Sophomore
Paige Savage has developed into one of the top passers in Hockey East, ranking third in the conference with 17 helpers this season. Savage had assists in seven straight games before being held off the scoresheet on Feb. 8 at Providence.
GOOD TIME FOR A GAME WINNER
Freshman
Hayley Masters notched her first career game-winning goal on Feb. 4 vs. Harvard in the Women's Beanpot. Masters banked in a shot off a Harvard defenseman from behind the net to give NU a 4-1 lead late in the second period. The Crimson cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third, but could not tie it up as Masters' goal stood as the deciding tally.
LONG TIME COMING
With a 4-3 win on Feb. 4, Northeastern earned its first win over Harvard in the Women's Beanpot since Feb. 10, 1998. It was also NU's first win over Harvard in any game since Dec. 7, 2001, a span of 11 contests.
HUSKIES IN SOCHI
Northeastern women's hockey currently has four representatives competing at the Sochi Olympics.
Kendall Coyne, who has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining, had four points in Team USA's 9-0 win over Switzerland on Feb. 10. Hilary Witt '00 is also part of the American contingent as the former Husky great is serving as an assistant coach.
Northeastern also has two alumnae on the Swiss National Team: Florence Schelling '12 and Julia Marty '11. Schelling stopped 64 shots against Canada on Feb. 8, before turning aside 44 shots against the United States on Feb. 10.
CHLOE CONTROLS THE CREASE
Junior
Chloe Desjardins stopped 30 shots in Northeastern's 4-2 win over Vermont on Feb. 1 to give her 30+ saves in 14 contests this season. Desjardins has stopped 30 or more shots in seven of the last nine games, turning aside 295 of 315 shots during that span, good for a .937 save percentage.
MAC-ATTACK IS BACK
Senior
Katie MacSorley scored her team-best fourth game-winning goal of the season in Northeastern's 4-2 win over Vermont on Feb. 1. MacSorley is tied for second in Hockey East with four game-winners and ranks eighth in the country in deciding goals as well.
OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
Northeastern scored eight goals to defeat Maine by a score of 8-2 on Jan. 25. The offensive explosion was Northeastern's largest scoring output since an 8-7 win over Providence on Jan. 20, 2013. Eight players had multi-point performances, including three-point efforts from
Brittany Esposito,
Kelly Wallace,
Hayley Masters and
Colleen Murphy.
ON THE PLUS SIDE
Junior
Colleen Murphy registered a plus-6 rating in Northeastern's 8-2 win over Maine on Jan. 25. The figure represents NU's best single-game +/- rating of the season and is the highest mark since Murphy and
Maggie Brennolt each recorded plus-6 ratings in a 9-1 win over UConn on Nov. 3, 2012.
MASTERS-FUL PERFORMANCE
Freshman
Hayley Masters recorded her first career multi-point game with three assists against Maine on Jan. 25. Masters had three career assists in 24 previous games before doubling her total in just 60 minutes against the Black Bears.
GETTING EVERYONE INVOLVED
Twelve of Northeastern's 13 active skaters recorded points in the Huskies' two-game sweep of Maine on Jan. 24-25. Ten of those 12 players had two points or more, led by
Brittany Esposito, who recorded six points (3 g, 3 a) over the weekend.
