SOCHI – After leading Switzerland to a historic bronze medal on Thursday, goaltender Florence Schelling '12 was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2014 Olympic women's hockey tournament by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
Schelling was also named the tournament's Best Goaltender and was voted to the tournament All-Star Team by the media. Schelling is the first Swiss women's hockey player to earn Olympic All-Star honors.
Schelling was sensational in leading Switzerland to its first-ever Olympic medal in women's hockey. The Oberengstringen, Switzerland native stopped 31 shots against Sweden in the Bronze Medal Game and finished the Olympics with 255 saves on 279 shots, good for a .914 save percentage.
Schelling made 64 saves against Canada in the tournament opener and averaged 42.5 stops per game in six Olympic contests.
