Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—Despite senior center Jewel Tunstull's third consecutive double-double, the Northeastern women's basketball team (11-16, 5-9 CAA) fell victim to a strong William & Mary defense (8-18, 5-9 CAA), 67-50, on Thursday night at Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe, who averages 10.9 steals per contest to lead the conference, forced 28 turnovers and added 15 steals on the night.

Tunstull led the Huskies for the third-straight game with 19 points, four steals, and a game-best 17 rebounds, good for her league-leading 12th double-double of the year. A'lece Mark joined the lone-senior in double figures with 12 points, while adding six rebounds. Tiffany Montagne contributed seven points, Kazzidy Stewart tallied six points, and Samantha DeFreese and Amencie Mercier logged six points, collectively.

For William & Mary, Jazmen Boone shot 7-of-11 from the field and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe for a game-high 20 points.  The junior forward also dominated on the defensive end, recording eight steals. Reigning Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week Marlena Tremba logged 19 points and Kyla Kerstetter contributed 12 in Tribe's effort.

W&M was strong out of the gate, posting an early 7-0 lead. DeFreese broke the Tribe's run with a layup in the paint, but an 11-0 Tribe run pushed William & Mary ahead by 16.

The Huskies stayed alive tallying three of the next four baskets, including 3-pointers from Stewart and Montagne, to bring Northeastern within 10 points with 9:44 left on the clock, 20-10.

Northeastern attempted to take its game to the perimeter, but came up short for five-consecutive shots. The Tribe held NU to just one bucket for the remainder of the half as W&M entered the break with a dominating 40-12 advantage and never looked back.

Mark opened the second-half scoring for the Huskies, connecting on a three less than 20 seconds into frame. After a Tribe layup, another basket from Mark triggered a 6-0 run for Northeastern and brought the Huskies within 21 points. William & Mary broke the surge with back-to-back shots in the paint, but Stewart's second trey of the night prompted another 11-4 run as the Huskies chipped away at the deficit and closed to gap to 18.

Over the next three minutes, W&M held Northeastern to three points and posted seven of its own to regain a 20-point advantage, 55-35. With 6:13 left in regulation, Tunstull and Montagne teamed up for seven points to come within 16, but that is the closest the Huskies would get for the rest of the night.

For the game, Northeastern shot 32 percent (18-56) from the field, 21 percent (5-24) from beyond the arc, and 90 percent (9-10) from the charity stripe. William & Mary connected on 48 percent (26-54) of its shots, including 19 percent (3-16) from 3-point range, and 80 percent (12-15) from the free-throw line. Northeastern won the rebounding battle, 42-26.

The Huskies return to Cabot Center for their final two regular-season contests. Northeastern will host Delaware on Sunday, March 2, before welcoming James Madison for Senior Day on Wednesday, March 5. Tip off is set for 2 p.m., and 7 p.m., respectively. NU will honor this year's lone-senior Jewel Tunstull along with the senior cheerleaders before the game. For ticket information, visit GoNU.com/tickets.
