BOSTON – Northeastern starting pitcher Chris Carmain allowed just one earned run through six innings, but Towson scored a pair of runs late in the game to claim a 3-1 win over the Huskies on Saturday afternoon.

Carmain posted his eighth quality start (minimum six innings pitched, maximum three earned runs) in eight tries this season.

Northeastern (14-18, 3-5 CAA) threatened to take an early 1-0 lead after Connor Lyons (1-for-4) led off the first inning with an infield single to the shortstop. Brad Burcroff (1-for-3, R) laid down a sac bunt to move Lyons to second, and Michael Foster (0-for-4) grounded out to advance Lyons to third, but Jason Vosler (1-for-3, 2B) struck out to end NU's half of the first.

The Tigers (16-14, 1-4 CAA) claimed a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Dominic Fratantuono led off with a single and stole second base. Brady Policelli was hit by a pitch with one out, and Carmain got Brendan Butler to fly out for the inning's second out. However, Fratantuono stole third base to put runners on the corners. From there the Tigers executed a double steal to take a one-run lead.

The Huskies evened the score in the fourth inning after Burcroff led off with a single up the middle and Vosler ripped a double down the right-field line to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Gabe Levanti (0-for-3, RBI) stepped in the box and launched a sac fly to centerfield as Burcroff tagged up at third base and scored without a throw home.

Towson reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning thanks to a two-out rally. Hunter Bennett led off the inning with a single, but NU relief pitcher Aaron Civale got the next two batters to foul out and fly out. Pat Fitzgerald singled and Kurt Wertz drew a walk to load the bases, and Fratantuouno drew a free pass to force in the go-ahead run.

The Huskies nearly tied the game in eighth inning when Jimmy Hand (0-for-0) drew a one-out walk and Sean Lyons (1-for-3) followed with a single. After Connor Lyons popped out to the pitcher, Burcroff belted a hard line drive to fight field, but Fratantuono made a great diving catch to preserve Towson's lead. The Tigers added an insurance run in the ninth inning on an RBI groundout by Wertz.

The Huskies and Tigers conclude their three-game series on Sunday, April 13, at 12 p.m.
