AMHERST, Mass.—The Northeastern men's track and field team secured a second-place team finish after earning five individual titles, including two from
Kevin Rosenberg, on Saturday afternoon at the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Invitational.
Rhode Island claimed the team title with 163 points as the Huskies came up just short of the Rams with 146 points. Host Massachusetts logged 109.50 points for a third-place team finish, while Central Connecticut recorded 91 points at fourth.
Rosenberg, who qualified for the IC4A Championships in the shot put last weekend at New Hampshire, claimed first in the event with a toss of 15.52 meters. The thrower also notched the individual title in the discus throw with a New England qualifying mark of 45.61 meters, good for a personal best.
Also in the field, reigning CAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Max Milder threw for the gold in the hammer throw at 59.24 meters, while
Kaylin Miranda and
Kyle Darrow took first and second, respectively, in the long jump.
Rookie
Paul Duffey was the only Husky to earn first place on the track after running away with the title in the 800-meter run at 1:52.33 for a spot at the New England Championships.
First-year Kwame Forwor took second in the 100-meter dash with a mark at 11.03, while
Donovan Henry also earned the silver in the 400-meter dash with an IC4A qualifying time of 48.50. Henry later competed in the 200-meter dash where he punched his ticket to New Englands after crossing with a personal-best mark of 21.68. Both of Henry's times currently lead the Colonial Athletic Association.
"We have had a good start to our outdoor season," said head coach Cathrine Erickson. "The balance of events from our men's and women's teams will allow us great versatility as we head into the championship portion of our season." The Huskies return to action on April 19 when they send student-athletes to the Yale Mark Young Invitational in New Haven, Conn., before NU splits its squad between the Penn Relays and Brown Invite the following weekend.
NU will then kick off post-season competition when it heads to Richmond, Va., on Friday, May 2, for the Colonial Athletic Association Championships.
