Following a successful series win over Notre Dame this weekend, the Huskies continue their 2014 campaign with back-to-back games versus Hartford and Bryant. Northeastern will host Hartford on Tuesday before traveling to Smithfield, R.I., on Wednesday to face the Bryant Bulldogs for the second time this season.
Scouting HartfordNortheastern enters Tuesday's matchup with Hartford holding a 43-30 advantage in the all time series. Hartford collected a 2-1 win over NU in the teams' most recent contest, last season. Prior to last year's matchup, the teams had not met since 2005, where the Huskies went 3-0 in the season series with the Hawks.
Hartford heads to Boston with a 24-16 overall record after losing its most recent matchup to Binghamton, 3-4, on April 27. Prior to the loss, the Hawks strung together five consecutive wins over Albany, Quinnipiac, Rhode Island, and Binghamton.
A trio of Hawks lead the team offensively as teammates James Alfonso, Ryan Lukach, and Chris DelDebbio have each tallied 21 RBI and recorded 40 or more hits on the season. Alfonso leads the squad with 11 doubles and three homeruns, while owning a .443 slugging percentage on the year.
Junior Sean Newcomb leads the pitching staff with a 1.12 ERA through 10 starts. After tallying 69 strikeouts so far this season, Newcomb became the first player in Hartford program history to record 200 career strikeouts. Teammate Brian Hunter is the only Hawk to pitch a complete game this year with five complete games, while Alex Goulin has made 16 appearances and registered nine saves.
With a 10-4 record in conference action, Hartford ranks second just behind Stony Brooke in the America East Conference.
Scouting BryantWednesday's game marks the second matchup of the season for the Huskies and the Bulldogs after Bryant secured a 3-0 win over Northeastern on March 19. With the win, Bryant now holds a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series against NU.
Bryant enters the contest looking to continue its season-high nine-game win streak that dates back to April 13. The Bulldogs have posted a 31-10 overall record, including a commanding 8-1 mark at home. Bryant ranks first in the Northeast Conference after going 11-1 in conference matchups this season.
Standout freshman Matt Albanese leads the Bulldogs offensively with a team-high 38 runs, 31 RBI, and 54 hits, including 12 doubles, four triples, and two homeruns. Junior Carl Anderson has also recorded 54 hits, while classmate John Mullen has posted 51 hits, 33 RBI, and a team-best four homeruns.
On the mound, Craig Schlitter and Kevin Mcavoy have seen 10 starts apiece for the Bulldogs, posting a 2.30 and 3.36 earned run average, respectively. Mcavoy leads the squad in strikeouts with 57 on the season. Junior LHP Trevor Lacosse has appeared in 15 games, registering a team-high six saves on the season.
Regional double dipThe Huskies return from their weekend series at Notre Dame to square off against a couple of the best teams in the northeast this week. Northeastern hosts Hartford (24-16) this Tuesday, and then travels to Bryant (31-10) on Wednesday.
Weekend winnersNortheastern opened its three-game stint at Notre Dame with an 8-4 loss on Friday, but the Huskies bounced back with a 6-2 win on Saturday and a 4-0 triumph on Sunday. Pitching and sound defense propelled the Huskies to the series win as NU posted a 2.42 ERA through three games and committed only one error between the two wins.

Connor Lyons entered the weekend series at Notre Dame with a .338 batting average, but he returns to Boston with a .357 clip. Lyons hit 8-for-14 (.571) at Notre Dame.
Northeastern vs. ACCThe Huskies improved to 4-1 against ACC teams this year after winning two out of three games at Notre Dame this past weekend. Northeastern is 2-0 against Boston College, 2-1 against Notre Dame, and will play ACC member Virginia Tech on May 7.
Last time out vs. BryantNortheastern turned in a solid pitching performance, but Bryant edged past the Huskies, 3-0, at Friedman Diamond.

James Mulry posted a pair of season-best marks with six innings pitched and five strikeouts, and freshman
Aaron Civale tossed three shutout innings in the second outing of his collegiate career.
Bryant (7-7) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Carl Anderson reached base on an error with two outs. John Mullen followed with a single to put runners on the corners, and Jordan Mountford's RBI single put the Bulldogs on the board first.
The Huskies threatened to score in the fourth inning when
Michael Foster (1-for-3) and
Jason Vosler (1-for-4) opened the frame with consecutive singles. Bryant starting pitcher Vaughn Hayward got out of the inning unscathed after
Nick Fanneron (0-for-4) popped out and both
Shane Allen (0-for-4) and
Sean Lyons (0-for-4) grounded out.
The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning thanks to solo home runs by Tom Gavitt and Mullen.
The Huskies put a pair of runners on base in the seventh inning when Lyons and
Gabe Levanti (1-for-4) hit consecutive singles with two outs, but
Joey Scambia (0-for-1) struck out to end the inning.
Carmain's 10th straight quality startCarmain improved to 5-2 on the season and posted his 10th consecutive quality start after yielding just two earned runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts in a 6-2 win over Notre Dame on Saturday.
