Sollowin named Most Outstanding Track Performer at CAA Champs

Overall Results

HARRISONBURG, Va.
– Led by junior distance runner Stephen Sollowin, the Northeastern men's track and field notched a second-place team finish at the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association Track and Field Championships, the highest team ranking since the squad joined the league in 2005, on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The NU men collected 221 points over two days of competition, falling short of CAA Champion UNC-Wilmington who tallied 265 points. William & Mary tabbed a third-place team finish with 151 total points.

Sollowin earned the CAA Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer after two individual titles and is the first student-athlete in program history to earn the honor. On Friday afternoon, he led the 5,000-meter run with a mark of 14:46.49 before running away with the 1,500-meter title at 3:57.75.

Reigning CAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year Wesley Gallagher became the first Husky in program history to earn the individual title in the men's 10,000-meter run. The Pembroke, Massachusetts native led the field with a time of 30:37.60.

Refusing to give up the No. 1 spot in the league, Donovan Henry collected a pair of gold medals and two new personal bests in the 200-meter (21.53) and 400-meter (48.20) events. Both times earned Henry a ticket to the IC4A Championships.

Zachary Krause led a quartet of Huskies in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after claiming the bronze at 9:25.21, good for a new personal best.

In the field, Jackson MacDonald walked away with his second CAA individual high jump title after clearing 1.90 meters. Classmate Max Milder became the first student-athlete in over a decade to win the hammer throw in three consecutive years and broke a 22-year-old meet record with a 60.58-meter toss.

Nick Tyler led a trio of Huskies in the decathlon, and tallied 5,378 points for second place after leading in the 1,500-meter run and the pole vault. Rookie Matthew Ferri was next in the order, coming in at third with 5,258 points.

Collectively, the men's squad logged 24 top-three finishes and seven individual titles. In addition, the men tallied 36 new personal-best marks, 20 New England qualifying times, six IC4A standards, and two NU all-time performance times.

Northeastern continues post-season competition at the New England Championships, beginning on Thursday, May 8 and look to improve off a third-place team from last year's Championship.
