AMHERST, Mass. – The Northeastern Huskies extended their winning streak to five games after Emma Lamison scored two goals in the second half to help the Huskies down the UMass Minutewomen, 2-1.

The two goals mark the first time Lamison has scored twice in a game in her young career. The forward has been extremely productive this season, setting new career-highs in assists, starts, and now goals. She has also started every game this season for head coach Cheryl Murtagh.

The five-game winning streak is the longest the Huskies have put together since they opened the 2012 season with six consecutive victories. This is also their first win against the Minutewomen since a thrilling double-overtime win back in 2012.

Along with Lamison, Becky Garner had a career day in net for NU. The sophomore goalkeeper has played exceptionally well as of late, and took that to a new level turning away 10 shots, one shy of her career high. She made several clutch saves down the stretch to keep the game within reach for the Huskies. Her six saves in the first half mark the most she has made in a single half this season.

Lamison opened the scoring at the 49:48 mark. She dribbled the ball down the field and delivered a powerful shot that beat Sam Carlino, the UMass goalkeeper. The goal was unassisted.

Just 10 minutes later UMass responded with a goal of its own when Lauren Allymohamed was able to put one past Garner to tie the game.

The Huskies, having been in this situation before, answered the call again. NU continued to showcase its offensive skillset and applied significant pressure in the games final minutes. Lamison, with less than five minutes remaining, drove another ball hard to net and placed it past Carlino for the game-winning goal.

Tough defense from the Huskies over the final five minutes secured the win.

The second half has been the key for Northeastern this season and that continued to be the case for Murtagh's squad against UMass. NU took three shots in the second half, two of which were goals, and were awarded a penalty corner. In the final 35 minutes of games this season, the Huskies have now scored 12 goals and allowed their opponents to score just four times.

Late in the first half the Huskies discovered the offense they have showcased over their last four outings. NU started to drive the ball to the net and generate scoring chances. Caroline Judge registered two quick shots but was unable to beat Carlino. Vanessa Pryor also ripped two shots on goal in the first half, but again Carlino slid and made the save.

The Minutewomen started off strong offensively, but the Huskies responded with timely poke-checks and by applying tremendous pressure to the forwards. At the 20:00 mark of the first half, the Minutewomen registered four consecutive shots, but Garner was able to turn all of them away to keep the game scoreless.

The Huskies return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to take on crosstown rival Harvard at 6 p.m. The Huskies then wrap up their four-game road trip on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. against another rival in Boston University.
