BROOKLINE, Mass. -- First-half goals from sophomore Carina Deandreis and senior Bianca Calderone powered the Northeastern women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Albany on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field.

The Huskies (5-3-2) limited the Great Danes (2-6-2) to just two shots on goal en route to their seventh shutout in 10 games. The victory also pushed Northeastern to 7-0-0 all-time against Albany, and 4-0-0 against teams from the America East Conference this season.

Northeastern went in front on 26 minutes when freshman Carly Wilhelm played a ball to Deandreis at the top of the Albany box. Given space to operate, Deandreis took a touch to her left and blasted a shot with her left foot that curled into the top right corner of the net from 24 yards out.

The Huskies added to the advantage 11 minutes later when freshman Hannah Lopiccolo was dragged down in the box, resulting in Northeastern's first penalty kick of the season. Calderone coolly stepped up to the spot and struck the ball off the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the cage for her second goal in the last three matches.

Northeastern nearly padded its lead twice late in the game. In the 80th minute, sophomore Nicole Wilkins played in Shayna Blackwood for a breakaway, but the junior's attempt missed just wide of the left post. Minutes later, Calderone lofted a cross into the box from the right wing that sophomore Haley Sinclair flicked just wide of the right post.

Playing behind a shutdown defensive unit, senior keeper Paige Burnett (two saves) was not seriously tested en route to earning her 21st career clean sheet.

The Huskies will now turn their attention to defending their CAA title when conference play opens Friday, Sept. 26 at William & Mary. Northeastern edged the Tribe on penalty kicks in the 2013 CAA Semifinals.
