InfographicTOWSON, Md. – Senior
Scott Eatherton scored 21 points on a perfect 10-for-10 shooting effort to lead the Northeastern men's basketball team to its fourth straight road win in a 52-49 victory at Towson on Saturday at SECU Arena.
The Huskies scored 38 of their 52 points in the paint and shot 50 percent (23-for-46) to move to 3-0 in CAA road games this season.
Freshman
Devon Begley scored six points off the bench and hit a pair of big second-half 3-pointers to help Northeastern (11-5, 3-1 CAA) equal its win total from all of last season (11-21).Â
Junior
Zach Stahl compiled seven points, eight rebounds and a career-high five assists, while redshirt junior
Quincy Ford added seven points and seven rebounds.
John Davis led Towson (8-9, 1-3 CAA) with 11 points and six rebounds, but was limited to just 16 minutes of action due to recurring foul trouble.Â
The Huskies out-rebounded the Tigers, 30-29, and held the hosts to 37.5 percent shooting (21-for-56) and only four free throw attempts (3-for-4).Â
Northeastern never trailed and led by as many as 12 in a first half in which the visitors shot 61 percent (14-for-23).
The Huskies started the game on fire, converting eight of their first 12 shots to jump out to an 18-9 advantage midway through the first frame.
The Tigers pulled within six at the break, 32-26, courtesy of a late 6-0 run and four Husky turnovers in their last six possessions of the half.Â
After failing to score in the final 4:30 of the first half, NU started cold in the second stanza as well, before an Eatherton dunk at 18:02 ended the scoreless drought at nearly six and a half minutes.
During the dry spell, Towson was able to rally back with a 14-2 run to even the score at 34-apiece with 16 minutes remaining.
Begley then hit a pair of corner three's to restore NU's lead, first at 39-34 with 14:53 to play, and then at 46-37 with 10:01 remaining.
A layup by Towson's Timajh Parker-Rivera pulled the Tigers within a bucket at 50-47 with 4:49 showing on the clock, but a feathery, eight-foot, hook-shot from Eatherton gave NU a five-point lead back with just under two minutes to go.
After pulling back within three, Towson had a final chance to tie in the closing seconds, but Four McGlynn's long 3-pointer rimmed out and the Huskies collected the loose ball to seal their fifth straight road win over the Tigers.
Northeastern will now open a four-game homestand, starting Wednesday, Jan. 14 with a 7 p.m. tip-off against CAA-foe Hofstra at Matthews Arena.
