PHILADELPHIA – Returning to competition for the first time since Nov. 23, the Northeastern women's swimming and diving team split a pair of dual meets against two conference foes on Saturday. The Huskies escaped with a 152-147 win against the meet-host Drexel Dragons, but came up short against the Delaware Blue Hens, 189-111.

Northeastern (4-3, 2-2 CAA) won three of the 16 overall events and rounded out the day with 14 top-three finishes. Against Drexel (4-4, 0-2 CAA), the Huskies placed first in five out of 16 events, and took home 29 top-three finishes. NU earned four first-place results in its dual meet against Delaware (8-2, 3-2 CAA), ending the day with 21 top-three finishes.

Senior co-captain Anna Schegoleva continued her 2014-15 dominance in the 100 and 200 backstroke, earning overall victories in both events with times of 57.11 and 2:03.07, respectively. First-year swimmer Sara Touchette-McGowan followed up a record-breaking meet at the 2014 Frank Elm Invitational with a first-place overall time in the 100 butterfly (56.94).

The Huskies opened the CAA pod meet with third- and fourth-place finishes in the 200 medley relay. Northeastern's A-squad comprised of Schegoleva, Taylor Ellis, Erica DeMunbrun, and Rachel Green swam to a time of 1:46.25, less than 0.50 seconds behind first-place Drexel (1:45.77). Sophomore Rachael Geiger was the top NU swimmer in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:53.90, good for fifth-place overall.

Touchette-McGowan placed second overall in the 200 freestyle (1:53.64), tapping the wall just 0.12 seconds behind the Dragons' Aubrey Murray. Co-captain Megan Foran finished seventh overall with a time of 1:57.00, and together with teammate Jordan Domeier (eighth place, 1:57.61), helped NU cut its deficit against both opponents after three events.

Schegoleva's victory and Christine Leong's third-place overall result (58.65) in the 100 backstroke brought the Huskies to within 10 points of Drexel (39-35) and Delaware (42-32) through the first quarter of the meet. Ellis grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.61, while Samira Hoesl placed fourth overall (1:05.99). NU outscored the Dragons, 16-2, in the event, taking its first lead at 60-51.

Delaware extended its edge on Northeastern to 81-50 following the 50 freestyle as Blue Hen swimmers Morgan Whyte (24.14) and Jordan Sawyer (24.34) tagged the wall ahead of Hoesl, who came in fifth place with a time of 24.90.

NU divers Jacquelyn Gover (267.40), Caroline Gonsalves (265.05) and Alyssa Seales (255.60) finished third through fifth overall, respectively, in the 1-meter dive, while Megan Rutter (232.65) finished in seventh place. Gover would later score a 249.95 in the 3-meter dive as the Huskies' top diver in the event.

Entering the back half of the pod meet trailing Drexel, 75-74, and Delaware, 91-59, the Huskies looked to rally around their school-record holders. Touchette-McGowan kicked off the comeback with a fifth-place result in the 100 freestyle (53.71), and Schegoleva brought NU nine points in both dual meets with a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:03.07).

First-year Huskies Ellis (2:24.22) and Hoesl (2:24.74) finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth place in the 200 breaststroke, while Foran led Northeastern in the 500 freestyle with a sixth-place time of 5:15.33.

Drexel looked to cut into Northeastern's 126-118 lead entering the final four events of the meet, but the Huskies caught a break when Touchette-McGowan (56.94) and DeMunbrun (59.09) finished one-two in the 100 butterfly. NU outscored the Dragons, 16-3, in the event, and following the 3-meter dive, led Drexel by just seven points, 135-128.

With Delaware holding a comfortable 50-point lead on the Huskies, 153-102, Northeastern turned its attention to holding off the Dragons in the final two events. Schegoleva (2:09.66) and Ellis (2:10.81) both completed the 200 IM faster than Drexel's Miranda Rouse (2:10.82) as the Huskies would take a 150-132 advantage against the Dragons. Northeastern would wrap up the pod meet with a fifth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay courtesy of a time of 3:40.63 by Green, Foran, Colucci, and DeMunBrun, as the Huskies secured a five-point victory against Drexel, 152-147.

The Huskies will host Vermont on Sunday, Jan. 17, on Senior Day at Barletta Natatorium.
