BOSTON – The Northeastern Huskies were defeated by the Delaware Blue Hens, 54-48, at Cabot Center on Sunday, Jan. 11.

The Huskies (3-11, 0-4) and Blue Hens (6-9, 1-3) played a classic Colonial Athletic Association matchup, with the game coming down to the closing minutes.

After a hard-fought 36 minutes, the game was tied, 42-42, with just more than four minutes to go. Northeastern and Delaware then went without a bucket for nearly two minutes, before sophomore center Francesca Sally drew a foul with 2:38 to go. The Denver, Colorado, native went one-for-two from the charity stripe, giving NU a one-point lead, 43-42.

On the ensuing possession for Delaware, the Blue Hens' Hannah Jardine hit a 3-pointer to put her team up by two. Northeastern then called a timeout, but the Huskies' next play did not result in a basket, giving the Blue Hens possession of the ball again.

NU would then intentionally foul the rest of the way. Delaware was able to convert on its free-throw attempts, securing its 54-48 win.

The Huskies were led by Sally, who finished with her second career double-double. The center recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds. She went six-for-17 from the floor in the loss.

Along with Sally, Kelly Cole received another strong night of production out of junior forward Samantha DeFreese. The Bergenfield, New Jersey, native went five-for-11 from the floor, resulting in 11 points and nine rebounds.

A'lece Mark also had a strong outing, finishing with 11 points, five assists, and five boards. As a team, Northeastern shot 32 percent from the floor. The team went six-for-21 from downtown. Cole's squad won the rebound battle 39-37, committed 16 turnovers to Delaware's 17, and scored 20 points in the paint to 12 by the Blue Hens.

The first half was a defensive battle as both teams finished shooting under 30 percent from the floor. Northeastern, however, closed out the half with two late buckets, including a buzzer-beating shot from Sally to take a 24-20 lead into the intermission.

As a team, Northeastern finished shooting nine-for-31 from the floor, including a two-for-eight mark from beyond the arc. The Huskies won the rebound battle by a 22-18 margin, while committing nine turnovers to 11 by the Blue Hens.

It was a back-and-forth first half, resulting in the game being tied five time and three lead changes. Northeastern's largest lead was five points, while Delaware's was just two points.

Sally finished with eight points, a team high. Just behind the sophomore was DeFreese with six points and Mark with five.

Northeastern now breaks for five days before welcoming UNCW to Cabot Center on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. This will be the first meeting of the season between these two CAA foes. Following their game with the Seahawks, the Huskies then hit the road for a Sunday showdown in Charleston against the Cougars.
