BOSTON – Winners of four straight CAA games, the Northeastern men's basketball team (13-5) will take a pause from conference play to wrap up its non-conference slate on Monday with an MLK matinee matchup against Detroit (9-10) at 2 p.m.
STORY LINES• Northeastern and Detroit will meet for the third time on Monday with the all-time series tied, 1-1. The Huskies downed the Titans, 73-68, on Dec. 8, 2004 at Solomon Court behind a 27-point performance from Jose Juan Barea. Detroit then evened the series with a 60-51 win at Calihan Hall on Dec. 22, 2006.Â
• Northeastern will close out its non-conference schedule on Monday after posting an 8-4 record in non-CAA games prior to the start of league play on Jan. 3. The Huskies have won two of their last three non-conference games heading into Monday with victories over Richmond and Santa Clara in late December.
• The Huskies won their fourth straight game on Saturday in a 69-67 victory over the College of Charleston at Matthews Arena. Five Northeastern players scored in double figures, led by junior
David Walker who netted 14 points. Junior
Zach Stahl chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth career double-double.
• Stahl is the third Husky to record a double-double this season, joining
T.J. Williams (16 points, 11 rebounds vs. Hofstra) and
Scott Eatherton (five double-doubles in 2014-15).Â
• Eatherton scored in double-figures on Saturday (11 points) for the 16th time this season and the sixth straight game overall. The Hershey, Pennsylvania, native leads the CAA and ranks ninth in the nation in shooting percentage with a 60 percent clip.
• Freshman
Devon Begley tied a career high with seven points (3-for-6 FG) off the bench on Saturday vs. the Cougars. Begley also added three rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes.
• Redshirt junior
Quincy Ford blocked two shots on Saturday to give him six blocks in the last two contests. Ford tied a career high with four swats on Jan. 14 vs. Hofstra and leads the Huskies with 22 rejections this season.
• Northeastern out-rebounded Charleston by a 32-22 margin on Saturday. The Huskies have out-boarded their opponent in 13 of 18 games this season and own an 11-2 record in those contests.
• Northeastern is allowing just 63.1 points per game this season, which ranks second behind Drexel (61.9) The Huskies have conceded less than 60 points in seven of 18 games and are 7-0 this year when holding opponents to 59 or fewer points.
