BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team (14-8, 6-3 CAA) will open a three-game homestand on Saturday against CAA newcomer Elon (11-11, 3-6 CAA) in a 7 p.m. contest at Matthews Arena.
STORY LINES• Northeastern will face Elon for the very first time on Saturday. The Phoenix joined the CAA prior to the 2014-15 season after previously competing in the Southern Conference (SoCon). The Huskies are 2-2 all-time against current members of the SoCon with wins over East Tennessee State (2010) and UNC Greensboro (2000), and losses to Furman (2010) and UNC Greensboro (1999).
• The Huskies are coming off a 65-60 setback against Drexel on Wednesday. Northeastern led by 10 at halftime, 29-19, before Drexel's Damion Lee took over the second half with 24 of his game-high 33 points coming after the intermission.
• With Wednesday's 65-60 loss at Drexel, Northeastern dropped its second straight game for the first time this season. The Huskies are now 6-1 in games following a loss; NU was 8-12 in games following a defeat in 2013-14.
• Redshirt junior
Quincy Ford scored five points on Wednesday at Drexel to give him 996 points in his collegiate career. With four more points, Ford will become the 33rd player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau. Ford would be the seventh Husky to reach the milestone under head coach
Bill Coen, and the first since Jonathan Lee, who scored his 1,000th point against Drexel on Feb. 2, 2013.
• Sophomore
T.J. Williams scored a team-high 16 points on Wednesday at Drexel for his sixth straight double-figure scoring performance. Over the last six games, Williams is averaging 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per contest.
• Northeastern was out-rebounded (32-29) on Wednesday for just the fifth time this season. The Huskies are 0-5 when their opponent grabs more rebounds in a game, compared to 2-0 when rebounds are even and 12-3 when out-rebounding their opponent.
• Following Wednesday's 65-60 loss at Drexel, NU fell to 7-8 on the year when scoring less than 70 points. Conversely, the Huskies are 7-0 when scoring at least 70 points in a game this season.
• The Huskies knocked down 14 of 16 (87.5 percent) free throws on Wednesday at Drexel to improve their season FT shooting clip to 73 percent, which leads all CAA teams and ranks 42nd nationally. Over the last two games, NU has converted 26 of 30 free throws (86.6 percent).
• With a victory over Elon on Saturday, Northeastern will post at least seven wins in the month of January for the third time in the last four seasons. The Huskies won eight January games in 2012-13, and seven in 2011-12.
