HighlightsBOSTON – Redshirt junior
Quincy Ford became the 33rd player in program history to score 1,000 career points as the Northeastern men's basketball team (15-8, 7-3 CAA) notched an impressive 80-61 win over Elon (11-12, 3-7 CAA) in CAA action Saturday at Matthews Arena.
Ford scored 12 points and reached the milestone with a first-half free throw to become Northeastern's first 1,000-point scorer since Jonathan Lee accomplished the feat in 2013. Ford scored nine of his 12 points at the foul line and chipped in five rebounds to help NU snap a two-game slide.
Junior
Zach Stahl (19 points) and senior
Scott Eatherton (16 points) both shot 8-for-9 from the floor as the Huskies made 28 of 47 shots (59.6 percent). Stahl also posted a game-high nine rebounds and tormented the Phoenix all evening with hustle plays around the rim.
Elijah Bryant paced Elon with 13 points and six rebounds, while Austin Hamilton scored 11 points.
Northeastern out-rebounded the Phoenix by a 39-27 margin and made 20 free throws (20 of 31) to Elon's seven (7 of 14).
Freshman
Devon Begley gave the hosts a huge boost off the bench with a career-high 12 points, including three 3-pointers.
Begley drained a pair of triples in the first seven minutes of the contest to stake the Red & Black to a 17-10 advantage.
Northeastern then widened the gap with a 16-3 run to close the half–while holding Elon scoreless for the final 5:07 of the frame–to take a 40-25 lead into the locker room.
The Huskies did not relent in the second stanza, scoring 40 more points after the break while building their lead to as many as 27.
Junior
David Walker brought the crowd to its feet at the midway point of the second half with a soaring alley-oop slam off a lob from sophomore
T.J. Williams in transition.
Elon cut the deficit to 19 in the final minute, but it was too little, too late as Northeastern picked up its fourth straight home CAA win.
The Huskies will look to build upon their strong effort with a contest against Towson on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Tip-off from Matthews Arena is set for 7 p.m.
