Stevens, Berube to join Cole at coaching clinic

Coaching Clinic Presenters: Kelly Cole (Northeastern) | Barbara Stevens (Bentley) | Carla Berube (Tufts)

BOSTON – Boston-area women's college basketball head coaches Barbara Stevens and Carla Berube will join Northeastern head coach Kelly Cole as presenters at the Huskies' upcoming coaching clinic on Sunday, Oct. 18. Coaches from all levels of competition are invited to attend this free event, which will be held from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Cabot Center, the home of Northeastern women's basketball.

Well-established coaches at the collegiate level, Cole, Stevens, and Berube have each helped guide their respective programs to a combined 41 NCAA tournament appearances. Stevens and Berube are also currently ranked among the top 20 winningest active coaches across all three NCAA divisions.

Stevens, who is entering her 30th season as the head coach at Bentley, will open the coaching clinic on Oct. 18 with a presentation on drills that focus on team development and championship mentality. Having won 928 career games during her 38-year coaching career, she is one of just seven coaches in NCAA history to have eclipsed the 900-career win mark. In 2014, Stevens brought Bentley its first ever NCAA Division II championship, leading the Falcons to a perfect 35-0 record.

Berube, who is beginning her 14th season as the head coach at Tufts, will follow Stevens with a presentation on defensive drills and strategies. A member of Connecticut's 1995 national championship team under head coach Geno Auriemma, Berube boasts a career coaching winning percentage of .771, having led Tufts to 272 victories since 2002. In addition to guiding the Jumbos to five NESCAC championship games and two consecutive trips to the Final Four, she was the recipient of the 2015 Pat Summitt Trophy as the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year.

Cole, who is entering her second season at the helm of Northeastern, will close out the clinic with a presentation on offensive drills and concepts. In 14 seasons at the Division I level, Cole has made 11 trips to the postseason, including eight NCAA tournament berths and three Sweet 16 appearances. She has been a member of several successful Division I coaching staffs during her career, including Cathy Inglese's at Boston College and Kathy Delaney-Smith's at Harvard.
