BOSTON – It's the mid-way point of the 2015-16 season for the Northeastern women's swimming and diving team and the Huskies look to close out the year on a high note at the Frank Elm Invitational, hosted by Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey, on Friday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 22.
Defending the titleLast season, the Huskies made their debut appearance at the Frank Elm Invitational and clinched first place, their first team-meet victory since the 2007 Terrier Invitational at Boston University. The Red and Black sealed the deal after a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with
Samira Hoesl,
Jessica Colucci,
Sara Touchette-McGowan, and
Anna Schegoleva tagging the wall in 3:26.08 and setting a school record, which they later broke at the 2014-15 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship.
NU saw season-best performances from
Jordan Domeier (1650 freestyle, 17:16.94),
Rachael Geiger (1650 freestyle, 17:22.67) and
Taylor Ellis (200 breaststroke, 2:17.52), while Touchette-McGowan set a new NU school record in the 100 freestyle (51.25), which she later broke at the league championships.
Sound bite"The Frank Elm Invitational will be the mid-season check point for our squad. This invitational follows the same format as the CAA Championship, so it will allow our team to experience what championships in February will be like. Furthermore, it will give us a true indication as to how our training has progressed. We are extremely confident in the our preparations so we expect great performances this weekend," said head coach
Roy Coates.
