BOSTON -- League play continues for the Northeastern men's ice hockey team this weekend as the Huskies get set to take on No. 11/10 Boston University in a home-and-home set, beginning on Friday night at Agganis Arena. Friday will mark the 225th all-time meeting between the two schools, tying Boston College as Northeastern's most played opponent in program history.

The all-time series with the Terriers
The Huskies and Terriers will meet for the 225th time in program history on Friday and the 226th time on Saturday, making the Terriers Northeastern's most-faced opponent. The all-time series with Boston University has been unkind to the Huskies as BU leads 58-158-8. These foes met three times last season with BU winning two of the games and the Huskies snatching one. The most notable game between Northeastern and BU last season was the 63rd annual Beanpot Final at TD Garden when the Huskies erased a two-goal third period deficit to force overtime. BU found the back of the net early in overtime and gave them their 30th Beanpot title in program history. Five days later, Northeastern downed BU 6-5 at Agganis Arena, before falling to BU 6-1 at Matthews Arena the next day.

After this weekend's games, the next time that the Huskies and Terriers meet will be at TD Garden for the semifinals of the 64th Beanpot tournament. The last time that NU and BU squared off in the Beanpot semis, it was the Huskies who emerged with a 3-2 victory on Feb. 4, 2013 thanks to a hat trick by Kevin Roy.

Scouting Boston University
The Terriers come into this weekend's action with some momentum from a 5-4 OT win at home against No. 5 Denver. Forward Ahti Oksanen scored twice for the Terriers against the Pioneers to give BU their first win in their last three contests.

With the departure of their top two scorers from a year ago and the absence of captain Matt Grzelcyk due to injury, the Terriers have needed players up and down the lineup to step up. Veteran forwards Danny O'Regan and Oksanen have been looked upon to provide scoring early this year, and they've done just that. O'Regan has already posted seven points, including his 50th career goal at BU. The Terriers have also received scoring from highly touted freshmen Ryan Cloonan (three goals, three assists) and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (one goal, five assists).

BU has enjoyed early production from the back end this year, with Brandon Fortunato (two goals, four assists), Doyle Somerby (four assists), Brandon Hickey (three goals) and Charlie McAvoy (one goal, two assists) off to hot starts on the blue line.

In net, sophomore Connor LaCouvee (2-1-0) and senior Sean Maguire (1-2-0) have split the starting duties through six games. LaCouvee picked up his two wins against Wisconsin and Denver while it was Maguire who stymied UConn in the Terriers' lone Hockey East win so far this season.

Recapping last Saturday's game at Vermont
Facing a 2-1 deficit entering the third period, Northeastern battled back to take a 3-2 lead in the final frame before Vermont tied the score with 2:01 left in regulation to force a 3-3 draw on Saturday at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Nolan Stevens, Adam Gaudette and Matt Benning all scored for the Huskies, who are now 2-0-2 at Gutterson in their last four outings, while Zach Aston-Reese added two assists. Derick Roy made 22 saves in goal in his first start in three games. Mike Santaguida had 28 stops for the Catamounts, who received goals from three different goal scorers.

NU outshot Vermont 31-25 in the game, and was 1-of-2 on the man advantage while the Catamounts did not get an opportunity on the power play. Northeastern dominated the face-off dot for the second straight game, winning 40-of-62 draws.

Johnny on the spot
John Stevens is tied for 26th in the nation with four goals this season, and has been on a hot streak ever since February of last season. Dating back to the 2015 Beanpot semifinal against Boston College, Stevens has 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 19 games.

Stevens has four goals in just seven games this season after tallying four in all of the 2014-15 campaign (36 games).

Shots, shots, shots
The Huskies haven't been afraid to fire the puck on goal in their first seven games of the season, peppering opposing netminders with 240 shots on goal. It's the seventh most shots on goal in the nation for team's through its first seven games. At the other end of the ice, Northeastern is holding opponents to just 22.71 shots per game, the fewest in the nation for team's who have played at least five games. The Huskies' 11.57 shot differential per game is the fifth highest in the nation.

At the dot
Northeastern won 80-of-124 (64.5%) of its face-off against Vermont last weekend, and is currently ranked 15th in the nation in overall face-off percentage (228-of-425, 53.6%) so far this season. Individually, the Huskies have three skaters ranked in the top ten in Hockey East face-off percentage, led by Mike McMurtry at 71.4% (25-of-35). McMurtry is second in Hockey East and eighth in the nation in face-off percentage.

Hall call
Bill Cotter '73 was a three-year letterwinner with the Northeastern, and will be inducted into the Varsity Club Hall of Fame on Nov. 6. His hockey career at Northeastern was highlighted by the 1970-71 season in which he finished fourth on the team in scoring (five goals and 13 assists).

In addition to his on-ice contributions to Northeastern, the Newton, Massachusetts native has been an active member in the Northeastern community since his graduation. In 1999, he received the Friends of NU Hockey Fernie C. Flaman award for commitment to Northeastern hockey. He was also recognized as one of Hockey East's "20 Special Friends" for his support of Northeastern hockey.

The road ahead
Northeastern will head back on the road next weekend to take on No. 18 Notre Dame at the Compton Family Ice Arena on Thursday and Friday in South Bend, Ind.
