JOCKEYING FOR POSITIONNortheastern and UNCW enter the weekend tied for second place in the
CAA standings with identical 9-4 records. William & Mary leads the pack at 10-3, but Northeastern can still make up ground on the Tribe when the teams meet next Wednesday at Matthews Arena. James Madison and Drexel sit one game back of NU/UNCW at 8-5; the teams will meet at JMU next Wednesday as well.
STORY LINES• Northeastern and UNCW will meet for the 16th time on Saturday with the Huskies holding an 8-7 advantage in the all-time series. The Seahawks have won two straight meetings, including a 75-68 decision at Matthews Arena on Jan. 5. In that game, Jordon Talley and Addison Spruill combined for 41 points to help UNCW to its first CAA win of the season.
• The Huskies will be looking to earn their first win at Trask Coliseum since a 70-66 triumph on Jan. 26, 2011. Northeastern has lost its last two contests in Wilmington, including a 55-45 decision last season.
• Northeastern enters the weekend tied for 13th in the nation in true road wins with seven (7-5). Among CAA teams, only Hofstra (8) has more true road victories than the Huskies this season.
• The Huskies are coming off a 79-68 victory over Hofstra on Thursday in Hempstead, N.Y. Senior
Scott Eatherton scored 20 of his season-high 24 points in the second half, while junior
David Walker chipped in 20 points and a career-high eight assists. Northeastern shot 56 percent and made 21 of 23 free throws to earn its eighth straight win over the Pride.
• Walker notched his fifth 20-plus-point effort of the season on Thursday at Hofstra. Over his last three games, Walker is averaging 16.3 points per game in 38.0 minutes per game.
• Eatherton's 24 points against Hofstra represent a new single-game career high while in a Northeastern uniform. Eatherton previously scored 25 points for St. Francis (Pa.) in a 2012 game against Fairleigh Dickinson.
• With Thursday's win at Hofstra, Northeastern improved to 8-1 in games following a loss this season. The Huskies' .889 winning percentage in games following a defeat ranks 26th in the nation, while NU's eight post-loss wins are tied for third in the NCAA behind UT San Antonio (9-1) and Hawaii (9-0).Â
• The Huskies made 27 of 48 field goals (56.3 percent) on Thursday to improve to 10-0 this season when shooting 50 percent or better. Over the last three seasons, the Huskies are 21-4 when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.
• Northeastern has shot 50 percent or better in seven of 13 CAA contests. The Huskies are shooting 50.7 percent in conference games this season, which ranks second in the CAA behind William & Mary (51.8 percent).
• The Huskies scored 79 points on Thursday at Hofstra to improve to 9-0 this season when scoring at least 70 points in a game. Conversely, NU is 8-9 when scoring 69 points or less.
