NU divers end CAA championships with strong 1-meter outings

Jacquelyn Gover took home ninth place overall in the 1-meter dive at the 2015 CAA diving championships on Sunday
NEWARK, Del. – The Northeastern women's diving team added another 14 points to its overall score at the 2015 CAA diving championships after three of its members advanced to the consolation round of the 1-meter diving event on Sunday.
 
Freshman Jacquelyn Gover led the way as the Huskies' top-finishing diver on day two, achieving a ninth-place score of 273.20. First-year divers Caroline Gonsalves and Alyssa Seales placed 14th (233.10) and 15th (231.25) overall, respectively, while junior Megan Rutter landed just outside of the consolation finals, finishing in 17th place overall (216.45).
 
Gover's ninth-place result awarded the Huskies nine points, while Gonsalves and Seales combined for five points, bringing Northeastern's two-day total to 39 overall points. James Madison's Taryn McLaughlin won the individual championship in the 1-meter dive (320.25) on Sunday, helping the Dukes maintain first place in the meet standings with 100 overall points. McLaughlin was also victorius in the 3-meter dive yesterday, and leads the women's side with 40 individual points.
 
Both Gover and Gonsalves were seeded in the top 10 following the preliminary round of the 1-meter diving event. Gover registered a ninth-place preliminary score of 250.95 in the early round, while Gonsalves was seeded 10th after an opening-round score of 247.95.
 
Seales followed up her eighth-place finish in the 3-meter dive on Saturday by placing 14th in the preliminary round with a score of 229.20. Rutter was 5.05 points away from a spot in the consolation round, finishing behind Delaware's Elizabeth Keefer (221.50).
 
Gover achieved the highest score jump between the preliminary and consolation rounds, gaining 23.25 points. Seales also improved by 2.05 points during her final set of dives.
 
James Madison (100 points) leads Towson (95), Delaware (61), Northeastern (39), UNCW (10), Drexel (4), College of Charleston (1), and William & Mary (0) after two days at the CAA swimming and diving championships. Gover (15 points) leads Seales (13), Gonsalves (8), and Rutter (3) as Northeastern's best individual scorers through two of six competition days.
 
Northeastern's swimming team will descend on Richmond, Virginia on Wednesday, Feb. 25 for the first of four days at the CAA swimming championships. The Huskies look to improve on their sixth-place overall finish at the 2014 title meet.
