RICHMOND, Va. – Two events were all the Northeastern women's swimming team needed on Wednesday night to make its initial statement at the 2015 CAA swimming championships as the Huskies broke one school record and landed another top-five result.

Northeastern opened the league title meet with a record-breaking performance in the 200 medley relay as Christine Leong, Taylor Ellis, Anna Schegoleva, and Sara Touchette-McGowan swam to an NU-best and sixth-place time of 1:41.37. Huskies head coach Roy Coates elected to keep the same lineup that had set the previous record of 1:42.61 earlier this season at the 2014 Frank Elm Invitational on Nov. 22. With the sixth-place result, Northeastern gained 26 overall points.

The Huskies were neck and neck along side UNCW for most of the way, but a final-leg split time of 22.93 by Touchette-McGowan was just short of beating out Seahawks anchor Chelsea Tomko at the wall as UNCW topped Northeastern by 0.01 seconds for fifth place.

NU also finished the 200 medley relay less than one second behind first-place William & Mary (1:40.43) as the Tribe held off second-place Delaware by just 0.11 seconds for the victory.

After a brief intermission following the men's event, the Huskies hit the blocks again for the 800 freestyle relay, where Jordan Domeier, Megan Foran, Ellis, and Touchette-McGowan snagged a top-five finish with a season-best time of 7:22.72. Northeastern ended the event a steady four seconds off the pace of fourth-place William & Mary (7:18.23), but was able to distance itself from Drexel as Ellis and Touchette-McGowan both posted strong split times.

Towson took the early points lead after day one, earning a victory in the 800 freestyle relay (7:12.58) and a third-place result in the 200 medley relay (1:40.56). With 72 overall points (not including scores from diving events), the Tigers lead William & Mary (70), Delaware (66), James Madison (64), Northeastern (54), UNCW (52), Drexel (50), and College of Charleston (44).

Day two should prove to be just as exciting for NU as the Huskies will compete in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and 200 freestyle relay. Due to local inclement weather, the preliminary rounds scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, will begin one hour later at 11 a.m.
