RICHMOND, Va. – Old program records came crashing down again during day two of the 2015 CAA swimming championships as the Northeastern women's swimming team made way for two new school-best times on Thursday night.

Sophomore Taylor Ellis and senior Anna Schegoleva both swam to record-breaking times in the 500 freestyle and 200 IM, respectively, helping the Huskies add on 23 more points to their overall score. Ellis' time of 4:53.34 came in a full two seconds below her previous program record in the 500 freestyle (4:55.35), which she had set earlier this season at the Frank Elm Invitational on Nov. 21. Schegoleva tagged the wall with a time of 2:01.00 in the 200 IM, also breaking her own school record in the event (2:01.20) by 0.20 seconds.

After two days of competition, Towson remains in first place on the women's side with 264 points, leading James Madison (245 points), William & Mary (208), Delaware (207), Northeastern (122), UNCW (105), College of Charleston (97), and Drexel (80). Scores from last Sunday's 1-meter diving event, held in Newark, Delaware, were factored into the two-day overall championship totals. Results from last Saturday's 3-meter diving event will be included in the overall championship scores later this week.

Ellis was seeded 11th overall (4:54.57) in the 500 freestyle following the preliminary round, and was one of two Northeastern swimmers to qualify for the consolation final along with teammate Jordan Domeier (4:56.30). The two sophomores both swam well during the evening session as Ellis bumped up to 10th place overall with a new NU-record time of 4:53.34, while Domeier finished 16th overall with a time of 4:57.70. Senior co-captain Megan Foran and sophomore Rachael Geiger ended the preliminary round back-to-back in 26th (5:03.60) and 27th (5:03.60) position.

Having already achieved NCAA B-cut times in the 100 and 200 backstroke events this season, Schegoleva picked up her third designation in the 200 IM when she cruised to a third-place overall time of 2:01.00. Schegoleva led William & Mary's Allie Christy for second place after the opening two legs of the final, but the sophomore Tribe swimmer unleashed a split time of 34.06 during the third leg, helping her better the NU senior by 0.02 seconds at the final wall. Christine Leong finished the preliminary round in 26th place with a time of 2:08.75, five positions ahead of teammate Delaney Lanker (2:11.35). Caroline O'Brien and Tove Bjork earned top-35 results with respective times of 2:11.39 and 2:13.10.

Sara Touchette-McGowan came 0.10 seconds away from breaking her own record in the 50 freestyle, but settled for 12th place overall with a time of 23.52. Few swimmers were as consistent as Touchette-McGowan was during day two as the freshman registered the same time in both the preliminary and consolation rounds. Rachel Green (24.09), Amanda Liew (24.10), Jessica Colucci (24.12), and Erica DeMunbrun (24.19) were four of the six swimmers that finished within a time window of 0.10 seconds that separated 26th from 31st place.

In the final event of the day, Northeastern's realy team of Schegoleva, Green, Liew, and Colucci earned a seventh-place time of 1:35.07 in the 200 freestyle relay. First-place William & Mary had three of its four swimmers achieve sub-23 second split times as the Tribe edged out second-place Delaware by just 0.03 seconds.

Schegoleva (16 points) leads Ellis (7), Touchette-McGowan (5), and Domeier (1) as the Huskies' best individual point scorers in swimming events through two of four competition days.

Northeastern returns to the pool on Friday, Feb. 27, to compete in five more individual events: the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, and the 100 backstroke. Preliminary rounds will begin at 10 a.m., while event finals will start at 6 p.m.
