NEWARK, Del. –Amencie Mercier, A'lece Mark and Samantha DeFreese all scored in double-figures, but the Huskies just fell short, 70-61, on the road against the Delaware Blue Hens on Thursday, Feb. 5.

DeFreese recorded her fourth double-double in the setback, accounting for 13 points and 12 boards. The junior from Bergenfield, New Jersey, has now recorded double-doubles in consecutive games for head coach Kelly Cole and the Huskies.

The senior duo accounted for 28 points as Mercier finished with a team-high 15, while Mark posted 13 of her own.

Northeastern (4-17, 1-10) and Delaware (11-11, 6-5) went back and forth during the course of the game, but a 9-1 Delaware run during the final four minutes put the Blue Hens up by 10 points and en route to the victory.

Along with DeFreese, Mercier and Mark, Francesca Sally and Maureen Taggart both chipped in solid efforts, contributing a combined 17 points. Taggart, who finished with nine points of her own, showcased her range throughout the game, going three-for-six from downtown.

As a team, the Huskies had one of their best performances of the season shooting-wise, connecting on 23-of-48 shots from the floor, a percentage of 48. The team also shined from downtown, shooting 53 percent, as Cole's squad made eight of its 15 attempts. Both teams recorded 12 assists, while the Huskies' bench outscored the Blue Hen's reserves 16-0.

NU opened up the game with one of its best halves of the season. The Huskies held a 31-27 lead over the Blue Hens behind 11 points from Mercier and eight from Mark. All in all, six different Huskies scored at least two points in the opening stanza.

Mercier connected on four-of-six from the floor, but did most of her damage from beyond the arc, where she made three of her four attempts. Mark, who has become a major contributor off the bench, went three-for-six from the floor, including two huge 3-pointers in the first half.

Also in the first half, Taggart chipped in six points, while DeFreese, Tanisha Hopewell and Sally all added two apiece. The Huskies made seven of their nine attempts from downtown, marking their best shooting performance percentage-wise of any half from three-point range this season. Overall, they finished with a solid 52 percent mark from the floor, going 12-for-23.

Northeastern is now back at home for a Sunday showdown on Feb. 8 against the Towson Tigers. That game is slated for a 2 p.m. tip. The following weekend, it's a trip back to North Carolina as the team heads to Wilmington, the home of the UNCW Seahawks, for a 2 p.m. start on Sunday, Feb. 15.
