BOSTON – The Northeastern Huskies put together a strong effort in the second half against the Towson Tigers, but the comeback attempt fell just short as the Huskies dropped a close one to the Tigers, 72-64.
Â
Samantha DeFreese,
Maureen Taggart and
Kazzidy Stewart all finished their afternoons in double-figures. DeFreese posted a team-high 21 points, while Stewart and Taggart added 11 and 14 points, respectively.

Â
Down by 15 with 11 minutes to go, Northeastern (4-18, 1-11) would bring it within seven points two times during the course of the game's final minutes. Towson (10-14, 6-6), however, would answer each of NU's runs with a run of its own.
Â
NU finished its afternoon shooting 40 percent from the floor. The team connected on 24 of its 60 attempts, in what was another strong shooting performance.
Â
DeFreese was the backbone of the Huskies performance in the first half. The junior accounted for 10 points – on a perfect five-for-five from the floor – and two rebounds. She gave Coach Cole and the team a tremendous inside presence. DeFreese wasn't alone, Stewart chipped in six points of her own, connecting on three shots from the floor.
Â
All in all, six different Huskies scored at least two points in the opening stanza.
Â
As a team, Northeastern shot 48 percent from the floor, connecting on 12 of its 25 attempts. They dominated in the paint, outscoring Towson by a 16-8 margin.
