BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team was selected as a No. 14 seed in the Midwest Region against No. 3 seed Notre Dame in a second round NCAA tournament matchup on Thursday, March 19, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as announced Sunday on the NCAA selection show.

"You don't really believe it until you see it, but I'm very excited for our guys to see our name pop up and get to compete against such a great program as Notre Dame," said head coach Bill Coen. "We couldn't be more excited."

Tickets are on sale now for the Northeastern community only: students, alumni, donors, faculty/staff, season ticket holders, and parents of students. Tickets cost $100, plus a $5 handling fee, and are good for all games in the session. Please contact the Northeastern Athletics Ticket Office at (617) 373-4458 for more information, or email Ross Mehalko ar r.mehalko@neu.edu. Additional ticket information is available here.

This will be Northeastern's second-ever meeting against Notre Dame in program history. The Huskies last met the Fighting Irish during the second game of the 1997-98 season on Nov. 25, falling short, 72-45, in South Bend, Indiana. Notre Dame (29-5) won the ACC championship with a 90-82 win over North Carolina on Saturday. The Irish are led by All-ACC First Team member Jerian Grant (16.8 ppg) and were ranked No. 11 in the country in the latest AP poll.

"They're an outstanding team, they have a Hall of Fame coach in Mike Brey, they have a couple of local kids, and it's going to be a tall challenge," Coen said. "They score the ball extremely well and are extremely well coached. If we can just focus on doing what we do and be the best version of ourselves come Thursday, try to prepare and make sure that we give our best effort."

The Huskies (23-11) won their first-ever CAA tournament in 2015 with victories over No. 6 Delaware, No. 2 UNCW and No. 1 William & Mary in the championship. Northeastern is just the fourth team in conference history to beat both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds en route to a title.

Redshirt junior Quincy Ford scored 22 points against the Tribe in the CAA final, and was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Ford was joined on the All-Tournament team by junior David Walker and senior Scott Eatherton.

Northeastern's 23 wins are the most for the team in a season since the 1986-87 team won 27 games (27-7) under head coach Karl Fogel and star Reggie Lewis.

Now in his ninth season at the helm of the program, head coach Bill Coen will be guiding the Huskies to their fourth postseason appearance (2009 CBI, 2010 NIT, 2013 NIT) since 2006. This is Coen's eighth appearance in the Big Dance, but first as a head coach; Coen previously helped Rhode Island make two tournament appearances as an assistant coach (1993, 1997), while helping Boston College to five tournaments as an assistant/associate head coach (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006).

The Huskies have appeared in the NCAA tournament seven times before, including six appearances in the 1980s, before qualifying a seventh time 24 years ago in 1991. NU is 3-7 all-time in the competition with its last win coming in the 1984 Preliminary Round against No. 11 seed Long Island (90-87).
