BOSTON – After posting a 44-point junior campaign, Northeastern winger
Kevin Roy was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star on Thursday night at the conference banquet. In addition, sophomore defenseman
Matt Benning picked up honorable mention accolades.
Roy led the Huskies with 44 points during the 2014-15 season on 19 goals and 25 assists, and finished the regular season ranked fifth in total points in conference games (10-15-25).
On Jan. 6 vs. Yale, he became the 47th player in program history to reach 100 career points, and 21st player to do it in three seasons or less. On Feb. 13 vs. UConn, Roy also became the 34th player in program history to reach 50 career goals. Roy leads the Huskies with 44 points this season on 19 goals and 24 assists. He is eighth in the nation in total points, tied for 10th in goals and tied for 15th in assists.
On Feb. 23 against Boston University, Roy reached 40 points in a season for the second consecutive year. He was the first Husky to accomplish the feat since Jordon Shields logged 46 points in 1994-95 before another 43 in 1995-96.
During the season, Roy was named a candidate for the Hobey Baker Award, a two-time Warrior Player of the Week honoree, and was named the National Player of the Month in February.
Benning, meanwhile, tallied 24 assists during his second season on Huntington Avenue in addition to logging the most minutes of any Husky on the roster. He was one of seven defensemen in the nation with at least 24 helpers this year. He finished the year with 19 assists in his final 21 games, and 14 in his last 14.
Roy and Benning join
Dalen Hedges as the Huskies to receive conference awards this season after Hedges was named the co-winner of the Len Ceglarski Award on Wednesday.
