Former basketball players finding success in pro leagues

Matt Janning led Anadolu Efes to the Turkish Airlines Euroleague quarterfinals.
BOSTON – As evidenced by the Huskies' run to the 2015 NCAA tournament, Northeastern head coach Bill Coen continues to establish himself as one of the elite educators in the sport of college basketball. However, Coen's influence doesn't end once his student-athletes graduate from the program. In nine years at NU, Coen has seen 11 of his former players ink professional contracts, many of whom have developed into key members of their respective teams around the world. At present, nine players who wore the Northeastern jersey still play at the professional level; here's a look at where those standouts are today.

Active players-

Manny Adako (2007-10) – 6'8 power forward for Al Gharafa (Qatar)
During the 2013-14 season, Adako averaged 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for Al Gharafa, shooting 61.7 percent on field goals, 43.2 percent on 3-pointers and 80 percent on free throws. He received Honorable Mention in the 2014 All-Qatar D1 Awards, as Al Gharafa clinched the Qatar Cup. This season, Adako led Al Gharafa to its second consecutive Qatar Cup victory with 20 points and 14 rebounds in a win over El Jaish. Adako has also played for Al Ahli (Qatar) and Leeuwarden (Holland). At Northeastern, he ranks 14th all-time in scoring (1,209) and fifth in field goal percentage (.541).

This season, Allen averaged 7.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists as Rethymno cruised to a winning record. He has also played for Stabill Jezioro (Poland), Zadar (Croatia), Karsiyaka (Turkey) and Galil Gilboa (Israel). At Northeastern, Allen was on the All-CAA First Team in 2010 and 2011. He is ninth on NU's all-time scoring list (1,550), fourth in 3-pointers (180), and second in steals (232). Despite going undrafted, Barea signed a multi-year deal with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks in 2006. By the 2008-09 season, he was a crucial part of the team, averaging 20.3 minutes per game. In 2011, he headed to Minnesota to play with the Timberwolves for three seasons. He signed with the Mavs again in October of 2014, returning to the team with which he won a championship in 2011. He averaged 8.9 points per game in the playoffs during the Mavs' championship run. In his return to Dallas, Barea recorded four points, four rebounds and three assists against Utah. The Mavs have made the playoffs each year the former Husky has been a part of the team, and this year was no different. Despite falling to the Houston Rockets in the first round, Barea averaged 11.8 points and 7.4 assists per game in the series, including a dominant double-double in the Mavs' victory in game two. He also joined his home country of Puerto Rico to compete in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup last summer. Barea was one of the top point guards and 3-point shooters to ever don a Husky uniform and ranks as the second all-time scorer at Northeastern (2,290).
