BOSTON -- Australian selectors have named three additional crews to contest the 2015 Under 23 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from July 22 to July 26. Among them is the men's four, which Northeastern men's rowing sophomore
Louis Copolov will serve as the coxswain.
Â
At the conclusion of the April U23 Selection Trials, where the Australian-based U23 athletes were selected for the U23 Australian Rowing Team, US-based Australian athletes were provided with the opportunity to gain selection into a limited number of U23 boat classes that had not been filled by Australian-based athletes in the April trials.
Â
The additional crews were selected from Australian athletes, who are currently studying and residing in the United States. It is the fifth time since 2011 that Rowing Australia has provided this opportunity to be selected in a number of Under 23 boat classes to USA based Australian athletes. This approach ensures that these valuable athletes are retained within the Australian high performance rowing pathway. As in previous years, the trials were held in Princeton, New Jersey, while the US-based Australian crews are now training in Dartmouth, New Hampshire.
Â
The U23 Australian Rowing Team will travel to Lake Rama, Bosnia for a training camp on July 8 before they travel to the U23 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv.
Â
Copolov spent most of his season guiding the Northeastern second varsity eight, including each of the final four regattas of the season, including a bronze medal finish at the Eastern Sprints. During the year, Copolov helped the Huskies' 2V to wins against Harvard and Wisconsin during the regular season before topping Brown, Yale and Harvard in the Grand Final of the Eastern Sprints.
Â
The Melbourne, Australia native then led the 2V to the IRA National Championships, where they finished third in the Petite Final in West Windsor, New Jersey.
