Cross country earns top-15 finishes at Nassaney Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Northeastern men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2015 season Saturday morning at the Nassaney Invitational hosted by Bryant University. Both Husky teams finished fourth overall.

Leading the way for the men were Dan Romano and Christian Stafford who both turned in top-15 finishes on the 5K course. Romano finished 11th with a time of 15:17 and Stafford crossed the line four seconds later in 15:21 to finish 14th.

Michael Potter, Dan Condon and Bobby Dunn all turned in top-30 races to round out the Husky scoring. Potter finished 24th, Condon finished 29th, and Dunn 30th overall. Northeastern finished with 108 total points on the men's side.

For the Northeastern women, Jordan O'Dea posted the Huskies' top result as she cruised to an eighth-place finish with a time of 17:55. The trio of Liz Harrington (23rd), Edlyn Gulama (26th) and Cortina Camila (30th) all turned in top-30 results in the women's 5k race. Rounding out the Northeastern scoring was Kerri Ruffo who finished 38th.

The Husky women finished with 125 total points.

Providence College swept both the team titles as the Friar women swept the top five spots and all five Friar men place in the top-15.

The Huskies will have two weeks off before running theBattle in Beantown at Franklin Park on Sept. 25.
