HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Despite outshooting Hofstra (8-7-1, 2-5-0 CAA) by a 12-3 margin in the second half, the Northeastern women's soccer team (10-6-1, 5-2-0 CAA) was unable to find an equalizer in a 2-1 loss on Saturday night at the Hofstra Soccer Complex.
After two early goals by the hosts, the Huskies responded on the brink of halftime on a goal by junior
Carly Wilhelm. Northeastern then proceeded to dominate the second stanza, but could not find a way through as Hofstra keeper Frederike Mehring made eight saves, including a finger-tip denial on a
Kayla Cappuzzo blast with 16 minutes to play.
Goal Recaps
• Hofstra grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Jill Mulholland sent in a cross from the right wing for Noriana Radwan to blast home with a first-time finish at the left of the net.
• The Pride doubled the advantage at 32:34 when Emily Agudelo's free kick hit the crossbar and bounced straight to the feet of Mulholland in front for the easy tap-in.Â
• Facing the prospect of a two-goal halftime deficit, Northeastern battled back to cut the Hofstra lead to 2-1 in the waning minutes of the half. After a long through-ball from senior
Jenny Sinclair, Wilhelm was able to race onto the pass, dribble around the Hofstra keeper, and bury the ball into the open net in the 41st minute.
Noteworthy
• Northeastern outshot Hofstra 21-10 overall.
• NU had its five-game winning streak snapped.Â
•
Jenny Sinclair recorded her first collegiate point with the assist on Wilhelm's third goal of the year.
• With her third tally of the season, Wilhelm becomes the sixth Husky to score at least three goals this season (Rosenblatt, Cappuzzo, Lopiccolo, Caparo, Koemans).
• Heading into Sunday, NU remains in first place in the CAA standings with a one-point lead over Drexel.Â
Up Next
The Huskies will return home to close out the regular season next weekend against Towson (Friday, 6 p.m.) and James Madison (Sunday, 1 p.m.).Â
