BOSTON – Winners of three of its last four matches, the Northeastern men's soccer team will continue to stake its claim in the looming CAA tournament on Saturday, Oct. 22, when the Huskies take on conference foe UNCW on Senior Night. Kickoff between the two sides is set for 6 p.m. at Parsons Field.

SENIOR NIGHT

Prior to kickoff Saturday between the Huskies and the Seahawks, Northeastern will honor the four members of its senior class: Harrison Balder, Marc Greenblatt, Christian McKenna, and Khesanio Hall. These four student-athletes have combined to help the men's soccer program win 11 conference matches and make two postseason appearances in the CAA tournament, including a run to the league semifinals during 2014.

CAA POSTSEASON RACE

With two CAA matches remaining on its schedule, Northeastern (six points) sits in sole possession of fifth place in the league table ahead of three five-point teams: College of Charleston, William & Mary, and James Madison. Although NU trails UNCW by two points for fourth place, the Seahawks have had two rescheduled conference matches added to its calendar, contributing to the complexity of scenarios that await the final two weekends of the regular season. The top six teams in the CAA will advance to the conference tournament, while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will host quarterfinal matches at campus sites.

EARLIER IN WEEK NINE

Northeastern (5-9-0, 2-4-0 CAA) steamrolled out to a 3-0 lead before the half-hour mark against Holy Cross on Oct. 19, benefitting from goals by Christian McKenna (seventh minute), Kevin Carvalho (19th minute), and Brendan Massie (27th minute). McKenna's goal came off the rebound of his own blocked penalty kick, while Carvalho and Massie each netted the first goals of their collegiate careers. Jonathan Thuresson was on pace to earn his fifth clean sheet of the season, but the Huskies conceded a late penalty kick to the Crusaders, reducing the final score to 3-1.

SCOUTING UNCW

Dancing in and out of the NSCAA rankings this season, UNCW will arrive at Parsons Field on Saturday having collected the 26th-most votes (48) in the NSCAA's most recent poll (Oct. 18). Winners of six of its first eight matches to start the year, the Seahawks have pulled out only one victory during its last four matches and enter with a record of 7-3-2 (2-0-2 CAA).

Through 12 matches this season, UNCW boasts a +7 goal differential (20 for, 13 against), despite having only five goal scorers. Julio Moncada carries seven goals and three assists into Saturday's match, while Stian Sandbekkhaug ranks second behind Moncada in goals with six. Both strikers find themselves ranked among the top in the CAA goals and goals per game. Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Cretens has recorded four clean sheets during his 12 starts.

LAST MEETING

NU did well to contain No. 22 UNCW last season on Sept. 26, coming up on the short side of a 1-0 result against the ranked Seahawks. The Huskies held UNCW without a shot on goal until the 58th minute, but wound up conceding to Daniel Escobar during the 67th minute. While Northeastern succeeded in limiting UNCW to three shots on goal, the Huskies had difficulty carving into the Seahawks' defending core, mustering four shots and none on goal.
