BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern women's soccer team (10-5-1, 5-1-0) used a pair of second half goals from
Mackenzie Dowd,
Kayla Cappuzzo and
Hannah Rosenblatt, as well as a clean sheet from
Nathalie Nidetch, to pick up a hard fought 3-0 victory against Elon (7-7-1, 2-3-0) on Sunday afternoon on a soggy Parsons Field.
Rain was a factor throughout the contest as the teams battled through a scoreless 45 minutes before Northeastern broke out for two goals in a span of three minutes from Dowd and Cappuzzo early in the second half before Rosenblatt added a third late in regulation. The win keeps Northeastern atop the CAA standings at 15 points with three conference games remaining.
The first half was all Huskies as Northeastern controlled the pace of play throughout the opening 45 minutes despite a narrow edge in shots, 5-4. Both of the Huskies' shots on goal in the first half came off the foot of Cappuzzo, first in the 12th minute when she ripped one from 22 yards out that Elon goalkeeper Taylor Mohr knocked down, and the other in the 20th minute from long range that Mohr also steered aside.
Northeastern's best chance of the first half came in the 36th minute as
Skylar LeBlanc sent a beautiful cross from the right side into a dangerous area, and Valerina Soares Gache tried to head it past Mohr, but the bid went just wide. At the other end, Elon nearly got on the board in the 43rd minute as Tori Baliatico got possession of the ball from 25 yards out, but her attempt sailed just over the crossbar.
GOAL DESCRIPTIONS
• Northeastern (50th minute): The Huskies drew first blood first early in the second half as MacKenzie Dowd notched her second goal of the season. • Northeastern (53rd minute): The Huskies struck again just three minutes later on Cappuzzo's fifth goal of the year off an incredible effort. Cappuzzo controlled the ball from 25 yards out and sent a laser on frame that caught the crossbar and fell into the net for a two-goal Northeastern lead.
• The Huskies went up by three in the 85th minute as Rosenblatt buried her fourth goal in three games when her redirected a header off a corner opportunity from
Nicole Wilkins.

• Rosenblatt has four goals in her last three games.
