BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team will begin its 2016-17 campaign at home against Boston University Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
 
The Huskies will kick start the season against their crosstown rivals for the seventh straight season, and will begin at Matthews Arena for the first time since the 2012-13 season. In the past six season openers against BU, Northeastern has tallied a 5-1 record.
 
Northeastern returns a pair of starters and seven letterwinners in 2016-17 while adding five new faces to the squad this past offseason.
 
QUICK HITS
• This is the 97th season of Northeastern men's basketball. Northeastern has an all-time record of 1,172-1,085 (.519) in 2,257 games.
• The Huskies are 371-253 (.595) all-time in conference play including a 113-83 (.577) record since joining the CAA in the 2005-06 season.
• The Huskies have amassed 12 regular season conference championships and eight tournament titles including a 2015 title which sent the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 24 years.
• Northeastern and Boston University meet in the season opener for the seventh straight season and for the 145th time in program history
• After the Huskies' 87-84 overtime victory last season, Northeastern tied up everything at 72-all in a series that dates back to the 1920-21 season, the first year of varsity basketball for Northeastern.
• Northeastern has won five of the last six meetings with BU.
• The Huskies return seven letterwinners, including a pair of starters in Jeremy Miller and T.J. Williams from last year's team that reached the CAA Semifinals for the fourth straight season. 
• Northeastern lost four seniors, Caleb Donnelly, Quincy Ford, Zach Stahl and David Walker, three of which are playing professionally.
• Ford signed as a free agent with the Utah Jazz while Walker currently plays for BC Andorra of the Liga ACB and Stahl is in Finland.
• The Huskies have also added five new faces to the squad this year in graduate student Alex Murphy (Duke/Florida), transfer Vasa Pusica (San Diego) and a trio of freshmen in Maxime Boursiquot, Bolden Brace, and Shawn Occeus.
• Brace (Santa Barbara) and Occeus (Boynton Beach) both helped their high school teams to state championships last season
 
COEN vs. BU
• Northeastern head coach Bill Coen is entering his 11th season as the leader of the Huskies.
• Coen is 7-3 all-time against the Terriers since taking over the program in the 2005-06 season.
• Coen has been familiar with BU for many years, serving as an assistant under Al Skinner at the University of Rhode Island and Boston College prior to arriving on Huntington Ave.
• Coen is 11-4 all-time as an assistant/head coach against the Terriers dating back to the 1996 season.
 
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
• Selected to finish second in the Patriot League in, Boston University enters the 2016-17 season coming off of its fifth postseason appearance in seven years. 
• Senior Eric Fanning, returning as the Terriers leading pointgetter, was tabbed to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team.
• Besides Fanning, the Terriers also return junior Cheddi Mosely (13.3 ppg, 1.1 spg), 2016 All-PL Rookie Team member Kyle Foreman (9.2 ppg, 3.9 apg, 1.2 spg) and junior Nick Havener (6.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg) as well as two Terriers who have recovered from season-ending injuries in senior Justin Alston and junior Cedric Hankerson.
 
THIS SEASON
• The Terriers will begin their season on Nov. 11 against the Huskies at Matthews Arena, the first time the Terriers have started out at Matthews since the 2012-13 season
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
•The two teams have met 144 times in the past, in a series that dates back to Northeastern's first year as a varsity program in 1920-21. 
•After last season's overtime victory, Northeastern evened the series at 72-all, as the Huskies have won five of the last six games between the two foes.
•The Huskies are 36-34 all-time at home against the Terriers 
 
LAST YEAR VS. THE TERRIERS
• Led by David Walker's overtime heroics and career-high 27 points, the Huskies and Terriers forced a third-straight overtime game at "The Roof" (2011, 2009)
• Caleb Donnelly, with 16 seconds remaining on the clock, hit a clutch three-pointer to give the Huskies an 87-84 lead and the eventual win
• John Papale air balled the game-winning try for BU
 
HUSKIES IN SEASON OPENERS
• The Huskies are 48-48 all-time in season openers dating back to the 1920-21 season.
• Northeastern is 6-4 in its last 10 season openers, winning five of the last six games, all of which have come against the Terriers
• Bill Coen has won seven of his season opening games at Northeastern.
• The Huskies have opened the season against BU just seven times in the history of the program, the last six seasons and then again in the 1972-73 season
• Northeastern is undefeated (2-0) when opening at home against the Terriers
 
NU IN HOME OPENERS
• The Huskies are 62-34 all-time in home opening games dating back to the 1920-21 season.
• Northeastern is 9-1 during the Bill Coen era in home openers, the only loss coming against James Madison, also the conference opener for the Huskies, 65-68 on Dec. 1, 2007.
• The Huskies have won their last eight home openers dating back to the 2008-09 season
• This year's home opener will take place at Matthews Arena for the first time since the 2012-13 season, also when the Huskies faced BU in the season opener, as NU's last three home openers have taken place at the Cabot Center

NORTHEASTERN PICKED SEVENTH
• The Huskies were picked to finish seventh in the CAA in 2016-17 by the conference's coaches.
• UNCW was picked to win the league while Towson was second and William & Mary was chosen to finish third.

PRESEASON All-CAA NODS
• Jeremy Miller has been honored by the CAA with All-Conference honorable mention honors entering his second season as a Husky
• Miller averaged 8.3 points, 3.9 rebounds in 2015-16 connecting on 51.1 percent of his field goals in his first year in a Husky uniform. His 27 blocks ranked first on the Huskies and 10th in the conference.
 
OUT WITH THE OLD....
• Following the 2015-16 season, the Huskies saw the departure of six letterwinners
• Three of the members of Northeastern's senior class of Caleb Donnelly (4.6 ppg), Quincy Ford (16.4), Zach Stahl (10.6) and David Walker (17.9) comprised the top three scorers on last season's squad
• In addition, Kwesi Abakah (1.5) transferred to Richmond following his graduation from the university while Brandon Kamga (3.0) transferred to High Point
 
...IN WITH THE NEW
• However, the Huskies added five new names to the squad in the offseason in a trio of freshman along with a pair of transfers
• Freshmen Max Boursiquot (Kent School/Immaculata), Bolden Brace (Santa Barbara), and Shawn Occeus (Grandview Prep)
• Brace and Occeus come to Northeastern fresh off of a pair of state championships
• In addition, Alex Murphy joins the Huskies after playing at Duke and Florida while Vasa Pusica comes to Northeastern from San Diego
 
IN THE RANKINGS
• Though the Huskies are not receiving votes in any polls entering this season of competition, they will face off against a handful of teams that are.
• Nine different teams that Northeastern will face during the 2016-17 season find themselves ranked or receiving votes on the preesason Mid-Major Top-25 poll.
• Another pair of teams on the Huskies schedule are ranked on the AP Top-25 and in the USA Today Coaches Polls. Michigan State, begins the season ranked 12/9 while Connecticut, who Northeastern will face in the second game of the season is ranked 18/16 heading into the season.
 
COMPETING AGAINST THE BEST
• Nine teams on Northeastern's schedule participated in postseason action during the 2015-16 season.
• Four teams found themselves in the NCAA Tournament.
