BUFFALO, N.Y. – With four Huskies reaching double figures and three players notching new career scoring highs, the Northeastern women's basketball team stuffed the stat sheets on Sunday afternoon, pulling through with an 83-59 road victory against Canisius.

Gabby Giacone chipped in 18 points to lead all scorers and swatted away three shots, setting personal bests in both categories. The sophomore forward made nine baskets from the field for the first time during her career, converting on 64 percent of her 14 attempts. Partnering Giacone in the post,
Francesca Sally achieved the first double-double of her senior season, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Overall, Northeastern (2-0) outhustled Canisius (0-1) in the paint to the tune of a 40-22 scoring advantage.

Jess Genco and
Loren Lassiter joined Giacone and Sally in double digits, each tallying 11 points apiece. Genco kept a clean sheet while powering the Huskies' offense at the point, dishing out nine assists without committing a turnover. Lassiter was a force in the paint all afternoon long, grabbing five boards while making four of her six tries from the field.

Maria Welch and Margret Halfdanardottir led the Golden Griffins with 14 points, posting identical five-of-nine shooting displays. Sara Hinriksdottir peaked with seven points and eight rebounds during 21 minutes of action.

As a team, Northeastern's ball control during Sunday's game was borderline flawless. Together, the Huskies assisted on 23 of their 32 made field goals and committed only 12 turnovers, of which three occurred during the second half. Behind Genco's nine dimes, Sally was second on the team with six assists, while Todd was third on the squad with five.

First Quarter: Northeastern came out firing from the floor, sinking 10 of its 15 shots and sprinting out to a 27-20 lead. The Huskies found Giacone early and often as the sophomore scored eight points on four-of-five shooting, while
Te'Erica Eason produced six points off the bench.

Second Quarter: After an opening 3-pointer by the Golden Griffins cut Northeastern's lead to 27-23, NU assembled an 11-0 run during a span of more than four minutes to build a 17-point advantage. The Huskies capitalized off 10 Canisius turnovers, scoring 13 points to take a 42-29 lead going into the break.

Third Quarter: Giacone and Genco's hot shooting continued as the game moved into the third quarter. The NU duo combined for 14 of the Huskies' 24 points, propelling Northeastern to a 66-49 lead with one period remaining.

Fourth Quarter: Maintaining their defensive intensity, the Huskies limited Canisius to only two made field goals, conceding more points (four) at the free throw line.
