Huskies take first, second at Carisella Invite

Roxbury, Mass. – The Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams placed first and second at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday night. The Carisella Invitational is one of two meets the Huskies will host at the Reggie Lewis Center.
 
Combined, the teams put up 14 first place finishes, 37 top three finishes and 80 top ten finishes. The Huskies also posted nine IC4A/ECAC qualifiers, 30 New England qualifiers and three top 10 all-time performances.
 
The meet was highlighted by the throwing groups with the men's shot putters taking first and second, the women's shot putters earning second through fourth and the women's weight grabbing the top three spots with ECAC and New England qualifiers from Erica Belvit, Lauren Swanson and Monae Cooper, all throwing over 16 meters.
 
In just his second collegiate outing, Travis Kartz took first overall in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.65m
 
On the track, Kyle Darrow crossed the 60-meter finish line in 6.89 seconds to take the individual title. Additionally, Paul Duffey and Dan Romano took the cake in the men's 1000 and 3000 meter runs clocking times of 2:24.71 and 8:29.36 respectively.
 
On the women's side, Jessica Scott placed first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.66, good for eighth on Northeastern's All-Time Performance List. In the 5000-meter run, the Huskies took five of the top ten spots with New England qualifiers of 17:56.34 and 18:05.69 from Kerri Ruffo and Brooke Wojeski.
 
The Road Ahead
The Huskies will break for the holidays and return to the track in 2017 at the Harvard Multi-Meet set for Jan. 13th and 14th.
