BOSTON – The Northeastern men's rowing team closed the regular season on a high note Sunday morning on the Charles River, capturing the Congram Cup against Wisconsin for the fourth straight season.

In the varsity eight race, the crews were neck and neck in the opening 300-meters before Northeastern built a half length lead by the 500-meter mark. Northeastern would extend its advantage during the middle 1000-meters to a full length by the midway mark of the race, and maintained that advantage through the remainder of the race to finish with a time of 5:56.904, three seconds ahead of the Badgers (5:59.954).

The victory gives Northeastern the Congram Cup for just the fourth straight season. The cup is named after former head coach Buzz Congram, who led the Huskies for 23 seasons. His record for against the absolute best in collegiate rowing was 83 wins and 63 losses. In the Eastern Sprints, Congram's Huskies advanced to the Grand Final 14 of 23 times, including nine of the last 10. His crews won bronze medals in 1981 and '88 and silver in 1991 and '95. Northeastern previously competed against Rutgers for the Congram Cup from 2001 to 2008, winning all eight meetings against the Scarlet Knights.

In the second varsity eight, Wisconsin led by a deck in the first 500-meters before building a half a length lead as the crews approached the Mass. Ave. bridge. Wisconsin ultimately took the race with a time of 6:07.3, while the Badgers' 3V clocked in at 6:09.2 and the Huskies at 6:10.2.

Northeastern will be off next weekend before returning to action at the Eastern Sprints on May 15 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
