BOSTON – The Northeastern women's soccer team (3-4-1) will travel across town to face rival Boston University (0-8-0) on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Huskies have won their last three meetings against the Terriers–including a 2-0 win in the 2014 NCAA tournament opening round–NU's last trip to Nickerson Field.
WEEK IN REVIEW
The Huskies earned their third win of the season on Sept. 8 at Parsons Field after a 4-0 trouncing of Holy Cross with goals from
Kayla Cappuzzo (2),
Hannah Lopiccolo and
Hannah Rosenblatt. Northeastern held the advantage in nearly every category, registering 10 shots on goal (22 total shots) while holding Holy Cross to just a single shot on goal (five total shots). The Huskies also tallied 12 corners, compared to the Crusaders' one corner.
Carly Wilhelm assisted on two of the Huskies' goals, bringing her career assist total to nine.
Northeastern then faced crosstown rival Boston College in a tight matchup on Sept. 11, eventually dropping a 2-1 decision to the Eagles in double overtime. Senior
Breeana Koemans scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute, her second goal of the season and seventh career goal. The Huskies nearly came away with a win, but the Eagles managed to score a goal with just four seconds left in regulation to send the game to extra time. BC then prevailed in double overtime at 101:14 when McKenzie Meehan headed home a free kick in the center of the box.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following Thursday's Boston Derby, the Huskies will face New Hampshire on Sunday, Sept. 18 to wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule. Northeastern is 9-6-3 all-time against UNH and has not lost to the Wildcats since 2003. This season, UNH holds a winning record at 3-2-2, with a 1-1-1 road record. Like the Huskies, the Wildcats also beat Holy Cross, coming away with a 3-2 victory. Junior forward Brooke Murphy has scored four of UNH's eight goals this season and leads her team with 25 total shots.
