DEDHAM, Mass. – Now the last nine games between the Northeastern field hockey team and Maine have resulted in a one-goal differential as the No. 19 Black Bears came away with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Huskies Saturday.

The streak, which dates back to the 2004 season, continued Saturday as Maine (7-2) scored just 42 seconds into the overtime period to earn its fourth-straight win over the Huskies.

The overtime game was Northeastern's fourth of the season, the most since the Huskies (4-4) played in six during the 2012 campaign.

Becky Garner made a season high nine saves on the day while Jamie Bartucca netted two of Northeastern's three goals on the day, her first career multi-goal effort in a Northeastern uniform.

The Huskies got on top first in the game as Bartucca got her stick on a rebound off of a penalty corner shot to score the Huskies first goal of the game.

June Curry-Lindahl inserted the ball into Natalie Stewart who set it up for MacLachlan. MacLachlan's initial shot was saved, but Bartucca flew in and got the stick on the ball to direct it into the goal less than 15 minutes into the game. The goal was the third of the season for Bartucca.

Maine answered back utilizing a penalty corner just a few minutes later setting up their shot and getting the ball into the back of the net to even things at one-all.

But the Huskies notched a goal of their own off of a penalty corner just a minute and a half later to regain the lead. This time, MacLachlan's shot hit the back of the goal with assists coming from Stewart and Curry-Lindahl. MacLachlan's goal was the fourth of the season for the sophomore.

The scoring flurry continued as Maine evened the score before the half when Danielle Aviani ripped a shot in from the top left side of the circle that Lydia Gavner got her stick on and misdirected past Garner.

Bartucca put the Huskies up 3-2 just about 15 minutes into the second half as her second goal of the game looked eerily similar to the first. Once again, off of a corner, Curry-Lindahl sent a pass in to Stewart. This time Stewart kicked it wide to Jessica Unger who ripped a shot that was blocked in front of the goal. Bartucca was once again in the right place at the right time and used the rebound to put the Huskies on top.

But like the first half, Maine answered back. This time, after an initial deflection, Madison Cummings netted her 11th goal of the season finding the ball behind Becky Garner with a wide open shot to even the score.

With 13 minutes remaining in the second half, Maine was awarded a penalty stroke. Garner then stepped up and made her biggest save of the season. The senior captain, prepared, guessed right, and made a huge save from point blank range on the penalty stroke to keep the game tied at three-all.

That save helped to send the game into overtime as neither team was able to score in the final minutes, but just 42 seconds into the extra period, Sydney Veljacic found an open lane, and sent a shot into the back of the next to give the Black Bears the win on her first goal of the season.

The Huskies are back in action tomorrow on Sunday, September 25 at 2 p.m. when they face off against New Hampshire to round out Legends weekend at Dedham Field.
