The Red and Black opened up a 2-0 second-period lead on goals by juniors
Ainsley MacMillan and
Denisa Krizova, before UConn battled back to tie the game early in the final frame. Northeastern had the final say, however, as Savage put the visitors ahead for good in the waning minutes, before senior

Northeastern out-shot Connecticut, 31-15, including a 25-10 advantage through the first 40 minutes. Northeastern also held a 36-25 cushion in faceoff wins, including 14 from Scamurra.

Maddie Hartman at the left point. Hartman fired a shot toward the net where Krizova was able to tip the loose puck to the back of the cage, giving Northeastern a 2-0 lead.
• With Scamurra in the box for hooking, UConn's Briana Colangelo skated in alone and fired the puck top shelf, over the glove of sophomore
Brittany Bugalski (13 saves) to cut Northeastern's lead to one at 10:06 of the second period.
• Connecticut evened the score 3:08 into the final stanza when Theresa Knutson slid the puck from the left boards inside the right post just past Bugalski's pad.
• Northeastern went ahead for good late in the third when junior
McKenna Brand centered the puck to Savage between the circles for a wrister over the blocker of UConn netminder Annie Belanger (27 saves) with 2:42 remaining.
