BOSTON – A second-half push led by T.J. Williams helped Northeastern men's basketball get back to its winning ways with a 69-62 victory over Towson Saturday night at Matthews Arena.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Huskies who improve to 13-9 on the season and 6-4 in CAA action. The win was a payback of sorts, snapping Towson's five-game win streak after the Tigers (13-10, 5-5) halted Northeastern's eight game win streak two weeks ago.

Williams, who had 16 points in the second half, finished with 23 points for his 14th 20-point effort of the season tying Reggie Lewis for the most through the first 22 games of the season. Lewis achieved the feat during his senior year in 1986-87.

In addition to his 23 points, Williams finished with five rebounds and four assists and was 13-of-20 from the free throw line, both career highs for the senior. His 20 free throw attempts rank in a tie for third-most in program history while his 13 free throws made are tied for 13th most in Northeastern history. Williams made 10 of his 13 free throws in the second half.

Alex Murphy, who spurred a huge 15-5 run in the second half for the Huskies turning a 35-40 deficit into a 50-45 advantage, finished with 16 points and six rebounds on the night. Nine of his 16 points came via the three-ball, including huge back-to-back threes during that run to initially give the Huskies a 3-point lead, one that would grow quickly to seven.

Also notching double-digits was Devon Begley who had his hand in all facets of the game today. Begley finished with 10 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Deshaun Morman paced the Tigers with just 11 points on the night. After putting up 24 points against Northeastern last time around, William Adala Moto was held to just nine points this evening.

Northeastern started off with a bang when Williams fed Anthony green under the bucket who thundered up for the opening slam.

Back-to-back threes by Murphy and Begley made it a 13-10 game midway through the first, though the offense cooled off as both teams were held without a field goal from the 11:33 mark until 7:53.

Following that stretch, the Huskies gained a 17-12 lead, but Towson erupted into a 12-2 run making it a 24-19 game. T.J. Williams ended that stretch with a fastbreak dunk followed by a Bolden Brace layup to make it a 24-23 ball game.

Coming out of a timeout, Adala Moto made three free throws as the Huskies headed into halftime down 27-24.

After holding Towson without a field goal for the final 3:04 of the first half, Northeastern kept that stretch going into the second half, using the time to tie the game up at 27-all. After 5:16 without a field goal, the Tigers broke the tie grabbing a four-point lead, that was cut to one on a deep three by Begley.

After head coach Bill Coen called a timeout with 11:17 to go, the Huskies burst out to a 7-0 run in a 1:56 span on back-to-back buckets by Williams and Murphy followed up with Murphy's first of two 3-pointers.

The 7-0 run turned into a 15-5 swing highlighted by back-to-back-to-back threes by Murphy, Murphy and Brace.

From there Northeastern held on, making 15-of-16 free throws in the final seven minutes of play to hang on for the victory.

The Huskies look to keep this momentum going when they return to the road for three games beginning with a Thursday night contest at William & Mary at 7 p.m.
